I'm certified.....
...as a child safety seat technician. WTF is a child safety seat technician you ask? Well I went to a 4 day school in the ins and outs of child seats and installations of such. So as a tech I can educate the public in the proper installation and us of child seats. I'm also certified in teaching safety seat install classes.
It was a lot more to it than I realized and it's a good class. AT the end of the class week we help a safety seat checkpoint. Every child safety seat I checked was wrong. It was good to show the parents the right way to install and use it.

In reality I think they could trim it down to 3 days tops for the tech class.

I worked one of these Child Safety Seat Checkpoint things today, I got to write everything down and do the paperwork while the tech did the seats, ugh someone shoot me. I was amazed at how many parents came in with their kids in car seats with the seat like 2 feet from the back of the car's seat, wtih it slidding around, or kids that are 2 feet too big for their infant seats wtih their legs hanging way down, wow. Minor things ok, but when its that bad, you can't tell me you don't notice. Another way fun learning experiance, lol.

06-10-06, 09:39 PM #17The average misuse and improper use of child seats going thru checkpoints is near 90%. When we did our checkpoint we didn't have anyone come thru that had a proper install and proper use.

Congrats! Last year I took our local MOMS Club to a carseat safety course the CHP held. Learned so much, and all our seats were installed incorrectly too. Probably saved a life or two that day.

06-10-06, 09:59 PM #20The main problem is lack of information and education for the parents. That's where we the child seat techs come in. I show the parent how to properly use and install a seat. I take it out and let the parent put it in. The instructions in some child seats and vehicle owner manuals can be hard to understand.
