No Charges for UK Police Shooting

No charges are being brought against the London Police Officers that mistakenly* shot and killed a Terror Suspect.

However the Met Police is to be charged under Health and Safety Law.

*When I say 'mistakenly' I mean, the shooting was meant but the wrong suspect had be identified to them by a seperate surveillance Unit.

Those things happen here too with both civilian & LEO shooters, but very infrequently.

It's a shame it happened when it did, because that gives the anti-gun crowd in the UK an argument against cops being armed.

I'm over joyed for the police officers concerned and the service in general.

It's a sad story, but didn't need to be made worse.

Are you saying you are against the decision, Norm357?

No. If the officers honestly thought they were shooting a suicide bomber, then they should have been cleared. I dont have a problem with that.

They fucked up when they didnt confirm the ID because the guy in charge of that was taking a piss. Then the cover ups and lies after the shooting simply left a bitter taste in my mouth.

If they (the Met) had simply had said that they fucked up, a tragic but honest mistake, then this would have blown over in a matter of days. Seems to me, the powers that be in the Met, tried to make this go away and screwed themselves royaly.

Once inside the tube station the radios do not work, so the officers involved had to make a snap decision. The guy that needed to piss WAS NOT a Police Officer but a soldier, part of a new Military Surveillance Unit. There was no cover up. The Met Commissioner spoke too early that a Terror Suspect had been killed. That is the only real mistake made, apart from shooting an innocent man, obviously. It wouldn't have 'blown over', no matter what had been said or done because the 'Civil Liberties Brigade' seized on it as yet another cause.

Unfortunately, in desperate times, honest men can make desperate decisions which later prove wrong.

If someone had thought they had seen Timothy McVey on April 19th, 1995....We'd all have hoped he would have been shot dead before he could kill 168 people.....

It's not a perfect world we live in...as you and I know, Norm..
