A Piece of History
This small silver pitcher was "acquired" from Kehlsteinhaus (The Eagle's Nest) after WWII. First off, I just wanted to share it with people who might think it was interesting. Second, I was curious if anyone knows anything about the legality of owning items like this, and the potential for having them taken for whatever reason. I've heard rumors of nazi items being taken by Germany(?) or other groups, and don't know if they're true or not. If anyone happens to know anything about the value of this item, I'd be interested in that as well. I won't sell it, but if I need to lock it up somewhere then I'd like to know. Hope this is as cool to some of you as it is to me

I think questionable ownership status has more to do with items seized by the German Gov't from private citizens, not items "liberated" during the course of the war - especially from military garrisons.
I'm sure there are plenty of wartime memorabilia experts/dealers/restorers in your area - take it there, have it appraised, cleaned and insured - and they can also fill you in on how the law applies.Molly Weasley makes Chuck Norris eat his vegetables.

Sweet artifact...
definitely something that you would not want to part with.
I have a few German WWII items myself that my grandfather acquired during the war.
His Luger (sp) went to my uncle which in turn went to the pawnshop….
..
If you haven’t seen it, HBO’s “Band of Brothers” mini series has an episode depicting the Capture of the Eagles Nest. Excellent show....

It's perfectly legal to own a war trophy. I have several that were taken in Panama. I had more before an officer(who wasn't even in my brigade)raided my stash.
