Co-Worker killed by drunk driver
This seems to be the day for sad news...
We just found out a few minutes ago that a co-worker was killed by a drunk driver this weekend... She had just graduated college before she was hired here a couple of months ago, and was going to get married soon.
That's about all we know now... Needless to say, the mood around here is somber this morning - This is a start-up company, so we only have 8 employees, and everyone feels it
God damn drunk drivers - Whatcha wanta bet he had priors out his wazoo

TxCharlie, sorry to hear the sad news. Thoughts and prayers sent that way.
It is better to be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

Man that's terrible. Sorry to hear that Charlie.
Which is exactly why a zero-tolerance DUI policy is best, in my eyes. When cops tell me how they let people go home if they're fellow officers, or if they live just up the road, it makes me sick. In my interviews I said I might not ticket officers for minor speeding and such, but a DUI transcends all friendships and boundaries because it's irresponsible and potentially fatal to anyone on the road.

I am so sorry to hear of her accident. Her family will be in our thoughts and prayers. I hope the drunk driver gets the maximum!

Sorry to hear that man. This is why I along with many others on this board feel so strongly about gettind DUI drivers locked up and charged. Drinking is one thing but getting behind the wheel while you are intoxicated is a totally different story. Drinking and Driving is not the answer and until we can convince people that they are not just putting their own lives in danger this will never get any better. My agency currently has 30 DUI's this month alone that are in the prosecution phase and all but a handfull are on their second or third DUI.
Stay strong Charlie and just remember one thing while we all may not agree on a lot of things when it comes to loosing friends and family we still all bond together to become one strong unity.Being the best is not what always counts. What counts is always trying your best.
Remember who you are, and where you came from. That way you never get a big head.
May those that lost their lives in 9-11 RIP, for the things you did not many could do. You left so many behind so that you could save so few. For now we stand strong as one, and will not look back till the fight is done. (me)

Sorry to hear about this, Txcharlie. Thoughts and prayers sent out.
And Shepards we shall be,
for thee, My Lord, for thee,
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand,
That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy Command.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee
And teeming with souls will it ever be.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and her family. I too believe there should be a zero tolerance policy on drunk drivers, including other police.

Thank you for the support, guys... I just talked with one of my company's officers, and we're going to her funeral as a group. I think that would be a nice gesture to her family, and will help us all.

Sorry for your loss, Charlie. Let us know how if we can help. Maybe we can promote something on LEF, that shows we're against drunk driving.

Something to think about - if she's that young, she may not have had any kind of life insurance policy. I'm finding out first hand just how expensive this can be, so maybe pass the hat for her family? Even small amounts help.

Thanks Ducky... That's a good idea. I don't know much about her family or whether she had any kids or not, but I'll try to find out.
I appreciate the thoughts Brad - What did you have in mind? My feelings are that LEF should support the boys in blue primarily - There will come times when an LEO will need support from us, but a drunk driving message would benefit all of us. I just wouldn't want it to turn into a fundraising thing unless it's for an LEO.Last edited by TXCharlie; 08-28-06 at 02:28 PM.

Oh Charlie, I am so sorry to hear this
Driving under the influence just infuriates me! So avoidable and unexcusable! I just had a close friend picked up for this. Pisses me off.
My thoughts are with your coworkers family and all of you at the station.**********************

your co-worker's death is not an accident. it is reckless and careless disregard for the safety of other people. the killer made a willing choice to consume alcohol. the killer made a choice to get into the car and drive. the killer's choice deprived your co-worker of her choice to live. the killer should be tried as such. we had a dui crash and the driver had 4 dui in the past 1 1/2 years. he stated the he would quit drinking and driving when he killed someone. if my family/friends had been involved in that crash he wouldn't get a second chance. as it was he lost some teeth. sending prayers

Well, I learned a little bit more today...
Nancy and her fiancé were coming home early this morning and a drunk driver went through a stop sign and broadsided their car on Nancy’s side. Her fiancé is in the hospital in serious condition.
The drunk walked away with no injuries - Naturally.

We dallied under
Vine maples and sapling alders
Searched for lady slippers
But instead
Found blackberry riots and
Desiccated branches
An old skid road
Brought ghost ferns and
Hollows filled with
Skunk cabbage
While waves wrapped
Intricate lacings of weeds
'Round mule spinners
His cyanotic eyes
Were hard enough to make
The sun turn tail and
Tender enough to attract me
To his world of illusion
