As soon as you guys recruit enough of yourselves, we will re-open the private, Verified C/O area.

Did that shit for six years and you guys have my ultimate respect. At least us street dawgs have the option of running away if the feces hits the fan. You guys have nowhere to run. Screw that! I could never do it again.

My brother did it for a couple years at Omaha Corrections. The inmates aren't the ones that pissed him off, it was the brass.
I don't think I could ever do it, but like nitestokker said, you have my respect!

Nope, I can assure you of that. I don't need to check on my officers. Their word is solid, if I can't trust my officers then who is left to trust. If I have any reason to believe they are lying to me on something, I will pull them in my office with my Sgt's and flat out ask them. If they say they are telling the truth, then they are. I won't check their story, shouldn't have to. I wouldn't check on my family's story now would I? My officers are my extended family. I do know some "brass" that do that, and they make me mad. I tell them, "You don't trust your officers, they won't trust you and thats when your shift falls apart." They just look at me like I am crazy. I just sit back and watch their shift fall apart. I also tell my shift: "I don't have your back. If I have your back then that means I am hiding behind you. That will never happen, WE ARE SHOULDER TO SHOULDER. I stand with you, not behind you."I don't want my officers looking behind then to see I am there, I want them to KNOW I stand beside them all the way. WE ARE A TEAM/FAMILY!
OK, enough of the soap box, sorry about that. lol.

^^ OCC could learn a few things from you. If they even took half of that advice maybe they wouldn't have such a high turnover rate.

I am a former CO. Did it for just over a year before I started on the street.
Honestly, I love it. And I could, at the time anyway, see myself doing it as a career. I worked in a small 35 bed county jail, in addition to a 42 bed minimum security annex to the jail. I really did like it. You meet some very interesting people. I met one guy that showed me a bunch of magic tricks with a deck of cards. It was great.
And, as everyone's said, I have a tremendous amount of respect for CO's. I've done it, I know. You're on your own behind those walls. And unlike us on the street, you can't back off and wait for help. Your right in there with the inmates. Corrections is a very integral part of criminal justice, and I for one thank every one of you CO's for doing what you do.
God bless you guys!No one has greater love than this, to lay down ones life for ones friends - John 15:13

Back when that happened, I was just starting in corrections and they weren't charging with felony's then. He was charged with simple assault of an officer and was lowered in custody and shipped from our unit to another one.

Women work in Male prisons all the time.
As a matter of fact when I got into prison, my first shift was on nights and we had what we so fondly dubbed: The Goonetts.
We had 3 women on my shift that was tougher than most men.The LT would send them into a house if the inmates were acting up and let them run it.
It was sweet, I would give anything to have them back. One went to the S.O. and is now a Sgt with them, one ended up having to quit, she got sick, the last one just got tired of corrections after about 10 yrs in and is now managing a cafe.
They were great.
