    Movie- The Choirboys

So Im tooling around the DVR the other night and decided to record the movie version of that 1977 Joseph Wambaugh novel The Choirboys. I read the book a few years ago (1990-ish after high school, I think, after I read the Onion Field and a few other JW books). I had forgotten most of the plot of the novel, but watching the movie...

Oh man what an awful film!! Any old timers who can confirm or deny behavior of off duty cops like that from back in the day? I cant imagine pulling crap like that (like calling your female officer "Officer Noballs"). Granted its fiction, but many of his novels are based in fact.

Its just a badly acted film, but yes I watched it anyway...

Well, I've read the book I think three times....and loved it every time.

And even though the movie was poorly made, I'd still be very interested in seeing it.

And, from what I understand, the book was ficition, based on fact. A lot of the stories in the book, and the overall plot "happened"....but names, and details were changed for the sake of the storyline and plot.

I've both read the book and seen the movie. As usual the movie was a pale comparison to the book. The thing about the book is, you generally can't make that kind of shit up. The shooting was contrived but most of the stuff I'd bet really happened somewhere.

The day the Padre ate pressed ham through the wrapper... HAS to be a true story. NOBODY could make shit like that up.

Take it from an old fart, you would be amazed how much of that is true.Wambaugh goes back a little further than me as I started playing the game in 1976.
My partners and I on my previous dept.would get off at 2300 hours and go to one of two places, the lakefront or a new industrial area (secluded) where the streets were paved but no buildings as yet.We would proceed to get shit faced ,and yes sometime gun play was involved, luckily no one ever got hurt. Also everyone had nicknames (hence my user name on these forums),there was Croaker,Rabbit,Orca,...
