How long can you work?
hi guys just quick question, we work up to 16hours at a time. Yesterday my shift started at 1430, and due to a call i was involved in I did not get home until 0710 this morning. Now I'm back up at noon and heading in for work at 1430. Anyone else have those kinds of shifts.

I think the longest I've ever worked was in the miner's strike in 1983.
Did 56 hrs on duty.
We were needless to say collapsing where we stopped for more than two minutes by the end.
We're supposed to be given 11 hrs between shifts now but like everything in our job if their is a need we have to work the hours required. It's called "Excigences of duty" I think.the sole advantage of power is that you can do more good.

Yes, I have had those kinds of shifts where I work now, with no time off as well due to an incident.
I have worked up to 26 hours straight at another agency as well.Any Post I make is my opinion only!
I do not have the authority or the permission to post for my Sheriff's Office.

Aviation guys here in my state work 24 hour shifts. But then they get a couple days off ofcourse! I'm sure it has its pros and cons...

I've had to work shifts like that - though like Motorway says we are meant to have 11 hrs between shifts.

Searched for lady slippers
But instead
Found blackberry riots and
Desiccated branches
An old skid road

Skunk cabbage
While waves wrapped
Intricate lacings of weeds

Only one agency in my county has a "maximum" that I am aware of, and it is 20 hours, with a minimum of either 6 or 8 hours before coming back.
My agency does not have a maximum, and I have done around 24 in the past, and have worked a couple of days this year where I have worked 21 or 22 out of 24 consecutive hours (with a worthless two hour "off time" in between).
Being in a college football community, every home game Saturday seems like an 18 hour minimum

We work twelve on, eight off and twelve on pretty regularly. Mainly because we're so short-handed. The overtime is nice, but the stress catches up to you pretty fast.

Okay, Cherry. Here we go. For those of you other rookies who do not understand, let me declare the Nite University Of Common Sense in SESSION: Disclaimer.....First of all, I am NOT a racist! My first wife was Mexican and quite possibly the best piece of ass I have ever had! I have cousins who are Hispanic, African-American and even Asian. So don't even go to the fucking race card because I hold the deck!
My Avatar is in direct response to Vincente Fox's lawsuit against the US Government for building the border fence. He calls it akin to the Berlin Wall when anyone caught crossing HIS southern border is shot, sentenced to prison or sold into slavery! DO NOT FUCK WITH ME, new guy! At least until you read some history or check out the news once in a while.
