The New England Patriots accuse the Indianapolis Colts of cheating....the NFL investigates
The NFL is looking into allegations that the Indianapolis Colts piped in noise during the game Sunday between the Colts and the Patriots. The charge comes after Patriots President Jonathan Kraft became the latest NFL team executive to accuse the Colts of the distracting tactic that is against the rules. "We're aware of it and we're looking into it," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Monday. "It may just be the TV feed from CBS, but we're checking it out."
Observers at the game said there seemed to be a "skip" in the sound during the game Sunday, which the Patriots won 24-20. That might confirm the long-held suspicion among many people in the NFL that the Colts play loud crowd noise to help distract opponents when the other team is on offense.
"We're aware of the accusations, but there has never been anything to substantiate it," Aiello said.
Kraft approached NFL Vice President of Security Milt Ahlerich after Kraft and his parents, Patriots owners Bob and Myra Kraft, left the Patriots locker room after the game.
Kraft was angry as he told Ahlerich the league needed to look into the allegation. Ahlerich is the same person who confiscated a videotape made by the Patriots during a game against the New York Jets in Week 2 that led to the Spygate controversy.
In addition, New England quarterback Tom Brady also commented on how loud it was in the RCA Dome.
"I don't know how you measure levels of being deaf, but we couldn't hear anything out there," Brady said.
This is the latest in a string of incidents between the teams that have fueled the growing Colts-Pats rivalry. In the past, Colts General Manager Bill Polian has vehemently argued that the Patriots have bent the rules in terms of use of replay challenges and the pass interference rule.

PRO FOOTBALL TALK questions the authenticity of the noise that came from the RCA Dome crowd. The site supplies this audio clip from the CBS broadcast for judgement.
Near the end, you notice some repeating reverb coming from the Indianapolis faithful. The background sound then shuts off, and the crowd sounds a whole lot quieter.
It's sort of like a CD skipping. Were fake cheers being piped into the Dome? Or was CBS injecting their own aural effects into the game via a sound studio in New York?
Or could it be that all 60,000 attendees brought in their own wah-wah pedals and played them simultaneously, as part of some odd Guinness world record?
That is no doubt proof that the Colts cheated. That is most definitely a CD skipping.

Tender enough to attract me

Newsday has learned that the NFL's investigation into complaints from the Patriots that the Colts had illegally piped in crowd noise is over. It didn't take the league long to find out that the Colts were not at fault for a crowd noise issue.
"CBS has informed us that the unusual audio moment heard by fans during the Patriots-Colts game was the result of tape feedback in the CBS production truck and was isolated to the CBS broadcast," NFL vice president Greg Aiello tells us. "It was in no way related to any sound within the stadium and could not be heard in the stadium."
According to a report on Yahoo.com, the NFL opened an investigationg after the Patriots complained of loud noise in the RCA Dome during Sunday's matchup of undefeated teams in Indianapolis.
The accusations were apparently made after some observed a "skip" in the sound during the game, which New England won, 24-20.
The Patriots have already been on the opposite end of their own cheating scandal this year, when NFL commissioner Roger Goodell found that they had illegally taped hand signals on the Jets sideline during the teams' Week 1 matchup. Head coach Bill Belichick was fined $500,000 and the team was fined $250,000 and forced to forfeit a draft pick as punishment.
