How do you choose a team to root for?
The OSU versus UM thread got me thinking about this: How do you pick a team to root for? Is it always based on geography? What about when you have no geographic ties to either team? Are there factors that could cause you to root for a team from elsewhere playing against a team from your area?

500 fights, that's the number I figured when I was a kid. 500 street fights and you could consider yourself a legitimate tough guy. You need them for experience. To develop leather skin. So I got started. Of course along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then, after, you realize that's what you are.

Shenaningans.
And Shepards we shall be,
for thee, My Lord, for thee,
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand,
That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy Command.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee
And teeming with souls will it ever be.
In Nomine Patris, Et Filli, Et Spiritus Sancti.

I choose by their colors.
May you rest in peace Daddy and may you never hurt again. I love you and miss you and can't wait to see you again.

Well Jenna, as far as the UM-OSU rivalry - in my case it's geography. A lot of my family members and friends are UM alumni, and over the years I've spent a great deal of time in Ann Arbor.

I'm Minnesota born and raised, so I grew up rooting for the home teams. I am a glutton for punishment, so I continue to support all of the Minnesota teams until I die. Some of my friends have called me the biggest homer they've ever met.
I also have a soft spot for the Cubs due to family living near Chicago. The views expressed in the above post are the sole opinion of the author and do not reflect any official position by the author's employer and/or municipality.

For me, it's mostly geographic. Born and raised in Texas (most of that time in Dallas), so I pull for the Cowboys, Rangers, Mavericks and Stars (kind of). However, I was once forced to pick a Texas college to pull for. I chose the U of Texas when I was in junior high (the college i went to, Abilene Christian University isn't exactly what you'd call an athletic powerhouse)...now living and working a stone's throw from the o.u. campus in Norman, OK has only solidified my love of the burnt orange.

(yes, those words were permitted to pass my lips. Or fingers as the case may be), the team chooses you
