polygamy and the cops in AZ

I think i was watching primetime and they had a special on polygamy. They showed this small town in colorado city and the cops would haul the woman who didnt listen to thier husbands to to mental institutions. They said that the had a state police official come into clean up the town.I guess polygamy runs rampid and the police dont do anything. The only mormans we see around here are when they knock on your door. Any AZ cops/citizens here have any imput into what is going on in your state.Is this normal, should I move to Az???

And I've heard about this group. They're a fundamentalist offshoot of the LDS Church and still believe in and practice polygamy.

And they're in the process of losing their judge, too.

The Colorado City police force also serves the adjacent polygamous community of Hildale, Utah. None of the police department's officers, however, is certified to act as a peace officer in Utah.

The other part of this is that they kick out all the younger men becuase the numbers don't work. If every older guy has a bunch of wives then the young men are going to compete.

There used to be a town down there called Johnson City that was also a hive of polygamy a few decades ago. I don't know if the problem still exists there or not. I think in the early 50's there was a raid on it by Arizona police. The raid ended up not changing anything. There are some real nutcases down there.
