The state Senate is set to consider a bill that would allow NFL teams to run red lights on their way to Lambeau Field in Green Bay.
The bill would permit police to escort any vehicle processions through red lights.
Police asked for the bill to clarify whether they could escort processions through stoplights. So did the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel in Appleton, where Green Bay Packer opponents stay.
The hotel wants the bill to ensure teams get a smoother ride to Lambeau Field -- and keep the teams coming to their hotel.
The state Assembly approved the bill in June. The Senate plans to take it up Tuesday.

Provides the statute precedent for what has been going on for years - the athlete exemption.
Schools, universities, courts, and some officers exempt athletes from laws that are inconvenient, or enforcement consequences that would affect the player's season or career.
OK to run red lighrts? Who eats it if there is a crash? Probably the dead driver's family, the driver that had the right of way, until the NFL came busting thru.
Might as well start exempting on the criminal code too. Toss in a celebrity named bill to make it pass: The Mike Tyson, O.J. Simpson "felony excuse" bill would prevent the nuisance of enforcement of assaults, rapes, robberies, and murders.

we escort teams (both home and visiting) to and from the stadium right now... and we don't need a law to tell us that we can do it... it's to get them out of the area ASAP...
but we also escort the referees, the mayor, the governor, senators, and other public figure heads away from the crowd...
well, not only us, but all the LEO's on scene at the stadium-=Twan007

in the warriors code there's no surrender, though his body says stop, his spirit cries...NEVER. deep in our souls, a quiet ember, knows its you against you, its the paradox that drives us all. its a battle of wills, in the heat of attack, its the passion that kills, and victory is yours alone.
