    Classes at the gym?

I've had a gym membership for several months that has (let's face it) been mainly unused. I was going over the schedule of classes available, and there's a couple I'm interested in - a martial arts based class and a yoga class. I've got experience with martial arts, but my prior training has pretty much been 1-1 training. No experience with yoga beyond a couple of books I've browsed. My concern is the classroom setting. I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be doing this kind of thing in a group setting. I know at first I'm going to be lumbering and clumsy, and I hate the idea of 1) being seen as the complete klutz I am, and 2) pissing off the other participants. Does anyone have experience doing classes like this? What should I expect?

Ducky....just have fun with it. Laugh at yourself, it helps. And if they cant laugh in good fun too....fucketh themeth

Scarpetta who used to post here, but doesnt anymore damn her, went with me to a few classes at the gym..cardio judo or some such nonsense. We turned the wrong way, ran into each other and made complete behinds of ourselves. We also laughed a lot and got twice as much exercise as the next person til we figured it all out. We only stopped going cause our schedules changed. Just have fun. Otherwise you will quit...and I am thinking that is not the point, no? lol

Most everybody in there has or had the exact same thoughts. Most of them are a lot of fun.

Go to the martial arts one and have fun. Anyone who laughs just place their name on "the list" and when you get good you kick their butt!!!

This way you get healthy and get to blow off stress and aggravation.

Ducky -- you're going to feel uncomfortable and uncoordinated. You're learning a new set of skills and movements; it's normal. If you don't -- you've probably got other problems.

So, go to the class. Have fun.

No one goes to work out to look good. I do classes at our YMCA. I do yoga (zero experience) I look like a goof half the time but I love it and no one cares, most the people are in the same boat. I also do Zumba, (if your gym offers it DO IT) I definitely look like a klutz most the time in that class but it's a great workout and I have so much fun with all the other chicks who look like klutzs, Haha

My gym offers Zumba, but I think I'll stick with the extremes of martial arts and yoga. You know, beat the shit out of someone, then finish stretching the last of the stress away.

As Autumn said, our YMCA does free classes, and I am thinking about doing a couple of different ones... "Moving and Grooving" in the pool and "Drums Alive". They sound fun
