She steps on the mat, she becomes just another opponent. If I made it to state tournament level, only to have someone say "I'm not going to fight you, you're a girl!" I would be a bit insulted. It wouldn't be respectful of all I'd done to get to where I was. She earned the right to compete, not to have someone back away like she has the plague.

I'm really back and forth on this...I'm SUPER gender equality man, but I also know (from experience at work) that I am somewhat hesitant to put a hand on a women that's not "loving" in nature.

From my background, I think that the issue may not be fighting, but just as simple as contact. I know alot of people who are raised that any physical contact between unmarried men and women is highly inappropriate, and I can understand not wanting to comprimise his beliefs.
