There are other illegal drugs that have legitimate medical use. If it's medically legit, and safe to prescribe I don't really have a problem with it used for that. Doesn't mean it should be legal for recreational use.

The vast majority of drugs which end up as "street drugs" are first synthesized for medical use. Only exception I can think of is meth, which came from the OMG cooks' stoves/experimentation, I believe.
