    NRA Board member...

NRA Board member against assault weapons...
I saw this somewhere else and thought I would bring it over here. I felt it was worth posting. Let your own heart be your guide. I've already sent my email.

    Victor

Enemy within – problem with NRA Board member

    http://www.klru.org/texasmonthlytalk...on/jackson.asp

The link above is for an interview with NRA Board member Joaquin Jackson. In it, he states his distaste for private citizens to own so-called “assault weapons.” This is inexcusable coming from a NRA Board member. The offending comment is in the video which is at the bottom of the page.

I have sent an email to NRA secretary Edward Land demanding his dismissal. (yes, he is a current Board member)

I ask and urge you all do to the same!

    Send complaints to Eland@nrahq.org

I'm appalled Joaquin Jackson was a respected retired Texas Ranger. I have met several retired and current Texas Ranger's and all I have met were avid shooter's and supported a civilian's right to keep and bear arms. I have lost any respect I had for Jackson.

You're "appalled" and his opinion is "inexcusable"? GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE!

Just because someone is a gun owner, NRA member or even an NRA Board Member it only means that they believe in the 2nd amendment. It does not mean that they MUST believe that all people should carry any and all guns they want. There are logical and intelligent arguments both for and against different gun control laws which do not need to be addressed in this particular thread.

Joaquin Jackson is a former US Marine, former Texas Ranger, graduate of the FBI National Academy, published author and NRA Board Member. His resume is quite impressive and I think he's earned the right to express his opinion on firearms - a subject that he's well versed in.

Or perhaps I should email Terminator and "demand" your dismissal from LEF because I don't agree with your opinion? "Let your own heart be your guide."

Victor thanks for your opinion but I have to agree with vengeance. I am glad that Jackson has his opinion and isnt afraid to voice it. I think that everyone is allowed to have an opinion about what ever topic. Jackson is a well respected person and that is why he is a board member for the NRA. I would be more apt to complain to the NRA if he was saying that full auto weapons, silencers and 100 round mags should be issued to everyone. Being in law enforcement for a while now I believe that law abiding God fearing people should be allowed to have firearms but this whole gun issue goes further than what kinda gun people can have. Crats want gun laws tighter when I believe that they should be enforced to begin with but thats a whole different topic.

    ... I guess I may be wrong

It appears that I made a mistake.

I guess most people here want to be like the Australians. No pistols except for current LEO and Military. Only rifles and shotguns that are single shot.

I'm sorry. I feel that if you have a clean record, the money, and wish... I think we should be able to own anything the military can cook up.

Every time you put a limit on what we can carry you're taking something away. If you're that scared. Maybe you're in the wrong job.

I'll go ahead and leave now.

Wow, Victor just because you and some members here disagree on a gun issue your going to leave?? Is that what you do in real life also? When someone disagrees with your beliefs you walk away? You dont stay and explain your side of things?

Lets be real here...as a LEO I dont agree with every law on the books. Its still my job to up hold those laws, and I do just that. I have mixed feelings over assault type rifles and fully automatic weapons. Yes it is currently the right of law abiding people to own them. But honestly what is the purpose of these weapons? Its not to hunt, Im a hunter and I would never use that type of gun. You can say its for home protection, but I can protect my home just as good if not better with a shotgun. SO what are they really good for?? Well there good for gang bangers, robbers, thieves, and other crooks. There good for the military and LEO on the job. Maybe for a collector, but for the average citizen??? I dont think so. I think that there would be fewer killings if there were fewer of them on the street. I think congress did the American people a great disservice when they didnt re-sign the law, and they allowed these guns back on the streets.

    But thats my opinion.

"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

What part of this do people not understand?

The US Constitution gives the people the right to keep and bear arms. The main reason is it gives the people that right is to keep government from overstepping their boundaries. It makes me question someone who questions my right to own "certain" guns.

If you are a law abiding citizen, with no criminal record and no mental health problems, you SHOULD own whatever guns you want. You should own as many guns as you want, with as much ammunition as you want. Why? Because the last time I looked, this was still a free country.
Are you a 3%er? If you aren't, you should be.

I dont question the constitution or the rights, just some types of weapons. Lets remember that a few years ago there was a law against certain weapons.

But where do we draw the line??? Its ok to own an AK-47, but not a shoulder fired rocket launcher? How about hand grenades? Where does the term arm and weapon end? Is a .50 cal machine gun be ok? What if I mount it on top of a H2 so I can look more like the military?

Im not trying to be argumentative, but really where do we draw the line?

We really should move this into the holding cell or merge it with the Second Amendment/NRA thread as an example of our low tolerance for B U L L S H I T.

I could never understand why a private citizen would need an AK-47 or a Ma duce 50 cal. I can understand wanting 6 or 8 hand guns....well maybe 11 or 12. Shot guns, high powered rifle ok I can go with them also. I just can't see the justafication for owning SOME weapons. I know that will piss off some of you but thats my feelings on the issue.
