Hey bro, don't let these guys give you a hard time. I understand your question and to answer it, yes you do have a future. Just be honest and up front with the prospective employer and in no time you will be back in the game. In closing I am gonna leave you with something that you should remember to get your career back on track........... Don't forget to ask if they want paper or plastic and yes I would like my meal value sized, BIOTCH. Now go get me a cheeseburger and a chocolate milkshake.

Misdemeanors are usually reviewed on a case by case basis as part of the hiring criteria for most departments ( at least here in Michigan). Unless you were charged with a felony in there someplace, you'd have a shot at it. It all depends how you explain yourself at your oral board or to an investigator looking at your application.

Dude, you are telling him stuff that he already knows because he has 100,000 years of LEO expirence and like 20 hundred degrees.
Now unless you have something insightful and intelligent to say get back to being a real policeman and let him continue being a mall ninja.

Would you care to add some intelligent insight to my situation now?[/quote]

How in the hell would WE know if you have a future in LE? We aren't the ones hiring you, we aren't the ones that have all your background info, we don't even KNOW you. Every state is different and only way to KNOW is to go for it and try. I know MANY that tried, had NOTHING in their background, but still didn't make it. Getting into LE isn't black and white...and *Do I have a future?* isn't quite a question that can just be answered with yes or no from those on the internet you haven't even met........right??????

When I was 21 I lived in State 1, worked in State 2, and got into trouble in State 3. Because of this my license was suspended in State 3 but it did not effect my day to day life as I worked and lived in the other States and the suspension was never issued there.

I was in a single traffic accident that changed the direction of my career. I was charged and convicted of OUI (.08), leaving the scene (despite dialing 911), & crossing the yellow line. Then in the course of attending one of my court hearings I was followed and then charged with operating after suspension. This charge along with the others made me a habitual offender in that State.

I have never been in trouble a day in my life outside of this single accident that created this avalanche of crap. 2-years later I left the Department by choice because it was no longer a satisfying place to work. At that time I entered private sector work and have become a successful businessman making 3-times the money I did in law enforcement. Ever since then I have been asked by friends and family in Law Enforcement to take positions with them and come back.

Clearly I'd like to but almost nobody in the world knows about the ordeal I went through. With this record (in another state) do I have a chance of being hired or are the powers that be going to view this
as unacceptable? What are my chances?

He is in his early 20's and was a police officer for 5 years that would mean he was 18 or 19 when he got the job, I don't know many departments who hire officers fresh out of HighSchool.

Kind of you to say, C4, but honestly, I think its just that:

"The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money."
    - Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America

Tell me not, Sweet, I am unkind,
    That from the nunnery
Of thy chaste breast and quiet mind
To war and arms I fly.
    - Lovelace

The opinions expressed by this poster are wholly his own, and should never be construed to even remotely be in representation of his employer, its agencies or assigns. In fact, they probably fail to be in alignment with the opinions of any rational human being.

It's not common for someone to get hired at 18 in NJ, but it IS possible, in my class we had 1 18 YO, 1 19YO, and 2 20 year-olds (Myself included), and we've hired 2 more people IIRC under 21 in the time i've been on.

Where I worked you could be hired before 21, but not sworn until you turned 21. I assume because you can't carry a handgun or deal with alcohol if you're under 21 (at least I don't think so, correct me if I'm wrong).
