Misdemeanors are usually reviewed on a case by case basis as part of the hiring criteria for most departments ( at least here in Michigan). Unless you were charged with a felony in there someplace, you'd have a shot at it. It all depends how you explain yourself at your oral board or to an investigator looking at your application.

How in the hell would WE know if you have a future in LE? We aren't the ones hiring you, we aren't the ones that have all your background info, we don't even KNOW you. Every state is different and only way to KNOW is to go for it and try. I know MANY that tried, had NOTHING in their background, but still didn't make it. Getting into LE isn't black and white...and *Do I have a future?* isn't quite a question that can just be answered with yes or no from those on the internet you haven't even met........right??????

At that time I entered private sector work and have become a successful businessman making 3-times the money I did in law enforcement. Ever since then I have been asked by friends and family in Law Enforcement to take positions with them and come back.

Clearly I'd like to but almost nobody in the world knows about the ordeal I went through. With this record (in another state) do I have a chance of being hired or are the powers that be going to view this
as unacceptable? What are my chances?

He is in his early 20's and was a police officer for 5 years that would mean he was 18 or 19 when he got the job, I don't know many departments who hire officers fresh out of HighSchool.

It's not common for someone to get hired at 18 in NJ, but it IS possible, in my class we had 1 18 YO, 1 19YO, and 2 20 year-olds (Myself included), and we've hired 2 more people IIRC under 21 in the time i've been on.

Where I worked you could be hired before 21, but not sworn until you turned 21. I assume because you can't carry a handgun or deal with alcohol if you're under 21 (at least I don't think so, correct me if I'm wrong).
