Belated Introduction

I'm Ian, host of the nationally syndicated radio show and top podcast, "Free Talk Live". I'm a Free Marketeer and a Liberty activist.

Laws are just words on paper written by men; therefore I believe bad laws should be disobeyed. Despite this, I get along well with LEOs in person, and enjoy interacting with them. Many LEOs are Libertarians, like me, while many are statists: my polar opposite.

I am not attempting to flame, just introducing myself as was suggested I do.

Welcome to LEF. I look forward to chatting and discussing various topics with you. I think you and your followers could be a great thing here as long as nobody gets out of hand (and that goes for both sides). There's nothing wrong with a good old debate every once in a while!

And if you are disobeying a law and a cop comes to arrest you what do you do?

Nonviolence. Violence just begets more violence. Resistance is futile as well, as that just gives the arresting officer an excuse to get violent.

I was just asking your opinion. It's fine if you don't want to share it / don't have one on fiat and inflation. It just seemed like something you might be aware of.

Welcome aboard... Glad these debates won't end with your show tonight. While I enjoyed the show, I didn't get make it on the air tonight myself (you did have my fiance, Julie, on near the end though).

I'll be interested to see where this goes. Frankly, I think a lot of us probably share some views with you... I, for one, am 100% behind the 2nd ammendment, and I prefer a government that is smaller and less intrusive overall. I feel that many personal freedoms shouldn't be infringed upon because they run contrary to the views of others, and I support a free-market economy as opposed to a welfare state.

Having said that, I am still a LEO, and I can't simply ignore laws that I don't agree with. I certainly have discretion in the performance of my duties (which I suppose can be interpreted as "ignoring" a law in some sense), but there are obviously some things that LEO's can't ignore. I also feel that many of us may differ in opinion from you when it comes to issues regarding the legalization of drugs (this in itself is a debate that brings up the obvious question: Which drugs?)... more on that later...

That's the kind of comment that inflames people and gets things out of hand there bubba. We don't look to get violent with anyone. The violence comes our way. We are paid to deal with it (ie bank robbery, shootings, fist fights) but I for one enjoy working without the constant violence. The fighting gets old, and has a potential to hurt us as well as the suspect. Not to mention the paperwork involved, or being called "Police Brutality" if we are forced to use physical means to arrest someone and enforce the laws your government has enacted then we gotta do what we gotta do. I know the guys I am friends with and work with do not "Throw one in for the team". If the person is not violent then there is "No excuse" for the "Brutality" you have insinuated here. The level of violence is met with the same level of restraint needed to get the subject under control.

I for one do not welcome you to the board since I can see already that you just want to take pot shots with your BS and try to insult us every chance you can get. I will avoid threads that you partake in sir.
