Intro
I'm regularly known as "FKnight", which is a shortening of a handle I've had on BBSs for years, but typically people just call me "FK" but rarely by my name, "Craig" -- unless it's in real life.
I'm a civilian. I'm not affiliated with Law Enforcement at all, but have great respect for the law enforcement profession that most people, including myself, probably couldn't do as a career. I have not, unfortunately, chanced upon knowing any LEOs personally, so the extent of my interaction with law enforcement are minor traffic violations, and a slew of tickets for expired tags, licenses, and insurance due to irresponsibility in my younger years in simply keeping track of paper work.
I'm an Information Systems Administrator, which basically means I'm in charge of making sure the company where I work has a computer network that's up, running, and making us money.
I found this URL on another message board (yeah, that one) and came over here to see what LEOs talk about and generally just understand LEOs better, since I really don't know any. The only thing I know is that they do a job that I can't imagine the difficulty or complexity of, especially considering the public microscope that LEOs are constantly under. I only have to deal with 20 people at work trying to micromanaging me.

Rather than start a new topic I'm going to hijack FK's as FTL is how I came to be here as well. Also I don't want to bump LEO introductions off the first page.
My experience with law enforcement has been limited. The closest I've come to seeing your side of the job came while I was a RA in college. I interacted with about as many paramedics as officers due to the splendid tradition that is binge drinking. While the ambulance crews were in and out, I got to know a few of the officers as we stood back and watched the aftermath. Life's not nearly so sterile as political theory over radio.
Instead of boring you with more about me or launching into a debate on a topic, I'd like to pass along a previous topic on the FTL BBS that may give the users here a bit of background on those who have suddenly come to visit you.

Welcome both FKnight and Bugeyed.
While we enjoy spirited debates about topics which we will never agree on {legalize majiruana for one} we are a Pro Police website run by cops and as such WE ARE ALWAYS RIGHT
So keep the debates logical and no personal attacks and enjoy the board...
