P.a.t.
I did my PAT today in 3:55. I'm not in the best shape, but I trained for about 30 days prior. I had my 1.5 mile run to 12 mins, and my 2 mile run was at 17:00 mins. If you can run 1 mile in 9mins, and 1.5 in 14mins, you can pass the Florida PAT. I saw about 4 fat dudes pukin' huffin' and puffin' the whole way and they passed. One dude puked, and one huge fat white chick ran a 6:30 and was the only failure. The test is easy, but do yourself and your community a favor; get in some type of shape, and take your fitness seriously. If you can't do this thing in 4:30, then knock off the cigerettes, and lose 50 lbs! I got 85% on my CJBAT, you have to read, remember and be fresh for the test. Take your time, and read read read, and then remember remember remember. My test had nothing to do with spelling or grammar. Oh, and make sure you can read a map.

I don't really understand that reply? You hate kids? If that was directed at me, I can tell you that I did not have to provide my selective service card because I don't fall into the 18-35 category. I'm sorry if I disrespected any LEO's, but I gave my honest opinion of the Florida PAT

We dallied under
Vine maples and sapling alders
Searched for lady slippers
But instead
Found blackberry riots and
Desiccated branches
An old skid road
Brought ghost ferns and
Hollows filled with
Skunk cabbage
While waves wrapped
Intricate lacings of weeds
'Round mule spinners
His cyanotic eyes
Were hard enough to make
The sun turn tail and
Tender enough to attract me
To his world of illusion

My main point was; I took the PAT pretty serious, I'm not fat, but I'm not in shape at all. I trained 5 days a week for 6 weeks. My best 1.5 mi was 12 mins, and I was pretty much toast after that, so I was discouraged. When I started my push-ups I was at about 16 if I was lucky, and now I'm at about 28 ( which still blows, but it is progress). At 38 I feel old, but I saw guys in their 20's that barely made the minimum physical requirements. I feel that if you want to chase bad guys, and hang out with serious LEO's you have to be able to see your toes, and your private parts.

good job on your pat. but just because your not fat means your in shape and being fat don't mean your out of shape. don't let the fat fool you.
get a thicker skin, sarcasm, it's a coping skill.
you probably wouldn't think much of me but when you become leo i'll be happy to compare stats with you and try to help you improve.Last edited by JLK; 05-12-07 at 11:46 PM.

Pudge113, now there's another post I just don't understand? Congrats on your punt, pass , kick title. But who is 12? If this is more sarcasm, I don't get it? In my post, I stated that I was an old dude that did decent on the Florida Physical Abilites Test. I"m sorry, I just don't get the reply?

Congrats on your progress thus far. Don't get your hopes up, nobody said it was going to be easy. Keep up the good work and you should continue to improve and good luck.

Interesting experience this law enforcement endeavor has been. I'm starting to get the impression that the LEO motto is: " Welcome to the jungle, we got fun and games, we got everything you want, only we know the games", I don't mind the sarcasm, but I'd like to see more black/white, and no grey. When I say black/white, I mean more definitive answers, and less fluff. It's no fun hanging around a bunch of guys that are standing around laughing at their own jokes. I think the punt/pass/kick hero, was saying that I was a baby with regard to the LEO profession, thats cool, I guess I'll just have to continue to read between the lines......Thanks bro's

Let me chime in here.
Welcome to the world or future world of Law Enforcement. IF ya cant handle a little sarcasm from a very cool bunch of people, you will NOT make it on the street when some gang banger says he is going to get out of jail and FUCK YOUR WIFE, MOTHER and KIDS because you put him in jail. Falsely accused I might add.
This is one L.E. site that does NOT moderate heavily well not, even moderately but we do enjoy 'blowing off steam' YES we do want new people here, but lighten up Francis....
Now on to your post I commented on above, You want definitive answers? ASK A QUESTION and you will get honest, accurate answers. I dont think you even asked a ??? in your first post.
This place is filled with Good Feds, Good locals, Good Counties and even some good Constables from the othe side of the pond...
Enjoy the site, welcome aboard and no need to apologize to anyone...

Uhh I didn't really know the joke either but I chuckled. I think you have a lot to offer and are really dedicated to the profession, but maybe you need to leave the black/white behind and let the "fluff" intrude a little bit more. I'm not officially in LE yet but from what I've learned thus far that's what is going to get your through.
All to ones own I guess.

Point well taken, I am catching on now. I wonder how many, or how old you have to be to get the " lighten up Francis" comment. I'm new and I want to know everything right now, my bad, I know its a process. OK, I got a question: I have done only forum/internet research, and judging by the delays, and the long drawn out hiring process ( sometimes a year?), I get the impression that there are like 10,000 applicants for about 4 jobs. It seems you gotta jump through some hoops, and then they make you jump through the same hoops, only this time they are on fire? Then when you jump through the flaming hoops, they want you to start all over? I have read about some dudes post academy, post poly, post background, and they still are in a holding pattern? Meanwhile, I read about lax standards because the hiring pool is too shallow? Whats the deal?

When I got my first police job, I took the test in 1993. I was told 3-4 times "your next, next month your in.." BLAH BLAH BLAH...
I finally started in 1995. It took NYPD over 5 years to call me but by then I was in PA and said screw that...Your dealing with civil service rules and a department that needs cops yesterday. SOmetmes its like putting 2 magnets together, they dont match up...
Good luck on Florida, they are hiring alot but it takes time...
ANd once again about this specific site, its good. Sarcastic but good.
