I'm new here..retired
Greetings fellow active and retired officers. Being new to the forum I have done a cursory search to see if there is a section specific to retired officers. Have not found one.
I retired from the Pierce County (WA) Sheriff's Department after 29 years service. Immediately took a post retirement position as Chief Investigator for the Washington Horse Racing Commission where I served for thirteen years. Totally retired now and wife and I do some traveling and spend time at our property in Montana.
For the retirees: How many of you have taken advantage of the Law Enforcement Safety Act of 2004 (H.R. 218) for the nationwide CWP? I have not yet done so but will be filing the paperwork and doing the qualification soon.
For those of you RV'ing retirees (or vacationing active duty) who may be heading into Montana this summer, drop me a note and maybe we can rendezvous for some trout fishing.

welcome
Welcome from the east half of the left coast,, aka 509 country. Retired WSP. Retirees get a bit of crap from the actives, but that's mostly envy. We get to mind our own business now, instead of everyone else's.

Greetings from the east coast. Retired deputy from upstate NY here. Funny thing you mentioned Montana, the wife and I are heading to the Kalispell area in june.
Maybe we should get our own area in here, we could call it OFF, as in Old Farts Forum.
I retired in 98, kicked around working for a friend of mine untill 05 then pulled the pin for good.If you can't do it from a boat. Do you really want to do it?

I just retired after 30 years. I went a little sooner than I wanted to, but the new Sheriff wanted a new Chief Deputy, who wanted a new Captain, who wanted a new Lt., and that's where I dropped off! I still work part time as a patrol officer for a small community, and by the end of summer, I'll be doing something full time. I still have a few good years left in me and am not really ready to hang it up just yet! Welcome to the forum. It's always great to see another old fart.

Yeah, it was a little bit of a change going from full time regular LEO to a mostly administrative investigation experience in the horse racing/pari-mutuel wagering world. Although there were a few criminal investigations (race fixing, etc) most of it was dealing with violations of administrative codes (WAC's) relative to the rules of horse racing and wagering. Thoroughbreds pretty much dominate the horse racing in WA but there are some smaller tracks that race quarters and appys and any horse some rancher thinks is fast. Nice to hang around the track and get paid for it though.
