Hello from Alaska
My name is Dan and I originally joined when O/R was LEF. At the time I just joined to read, but never posted an introduction.

I work for OSHA and have been in the Safety and Health field for 8 years.
I am from Alaska and love it here. In the summer I ride my Kawasaki Mean Streak 1600 motorcycle (hence the screen name ms1600). I go fishing on the Kenai River and enjoy the outdoors. In the winter I try to ski as often as I can.
I look forward to participating in O/R.
Dan

Welcome aboard, Dan. The wife and I vacationed In Alaska in June 1995. Couldn't believe it made it in the 80's and the bugs.
We started in Fairbanks and drove for over 2000 miles checking the sights. We also spent a day in Anchorage. Went to a comedy club in Spenard called the Fly-By-Night. A comedian that night wore a suit made up entirely of duct tape. Funny act and a good time. Great memories. If heaven looks half as good as Alaska, that would be fabulous.
As today's police officers you are not unlike your counterparts of years past. You are an elite group of select members, a brotherhood of highly trained professionals, who are called upon to protect your community in a time of need. Guardians for safety. Being a police officer is not for the faint of heart. You must be honest, trustworthy and fearless in the face of evil. You are being watched everyday. Represent yourself, your department and the shield, for it should always be the embodiment of all that is good and justly. You are the thin blue line. Be proud, be tough and be safe.

Hello and welcome aboard from Louisiana.
SI VIS PACEM PARA BELLUM-Ex-Sheriff Martin Howe to Will Kane in "High Noon"
"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.

Welcome back!! I am a temporarily displaced Alaskan myself, having lived up at Anderson for several years. I currently have two brothers in Anchorage, one is a member on the board here, screen name Ace. Both are cops down there. I've heard that it was a beautiful summer up there this year.

Thanks. Anchorage's summer has been pleasant. I've driven by the turnoff to Clear/Anderson numerous times on the way to Fairbanks. There were some bad forest fires this summer around Nenana and Anderson actually had to be evacuated temporarily. Were you stationed at Clear?
