In Wisconsin you stand a better chance of being hired if you have a 2 year degree and certification over a 4-year degree without. It costs the department a lot of time and money to send someone through the LESB certification course. The only departments in the state that have "in-house" academies that I know of are the State Patrol, Madison and the Milwaukee Police Department.
