Hello and welcome aboard from Louisiana.
SI VIS PACEM PARA BELLUM-Ex-Sheriff Martin Howe to Will Kane in "High Noon"
"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.

Welcome from a former resident of your fair city. The list of things I miss about Abilene is far too long. I once drove 4 hours out of my way to eat lunch at Harold's.

Thanks for all the hospitality all. I notice that we sure got a lot of members from LA, I say they supply new members with a dose of "mudbugs".
Bob Loblaw-Harold's would well be worth that drive. Alas, Harold is about to extinguish his pit & retire. He would like to find someone to keep it going, but is having trouble finding someone he's in.Blessed are the the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. MATT 5:10

When I went in last time, his son looked like he was running things...still the same great brisket sandwich with Damn Hot sauce and hotwater cornbread as I remembered from back in the day. If I were getting the chair, I'm pretty sure Harold's would be on the short list for last meal...seriously.

03-20-11, 06:06 PM #27Yessir, Harold's is still good nuff to fight for. I like the jalapeno cornbread & Damn Hot Sauce myself. I just always end up paying for it later. Have you ever heard Harold sing? He's got a wonderful voice & his version of Amazing Grace is a sermon in itself. When I went in last time, his son looked like he was running things...still the same great brisket sandwich with Damn Hot sauce and hotwater cornbread as I remembered from back in the day. when my parents would come up for Sing Song, my pops would always take me to Harold's because ol' Harold would sing nearly all afternoon while he was working the pit. I'm sad he's hanging the apron up...I have to figure out a reason to make a 4 1/2 hour trip to Abilene to eat there before they put a padlock on the doors.
