Thread: Hello from South Africa
12-05-05, 01:23 PM #21
I heard that this guy of anglo decent came to America from South Africa. He was white as a sheet.
He put down on an application that he was "African-American" After all - he was born in Africa and grew up there and then became a US citizen - he figured that made him "African-American"
The person reviewing his application said, "You can't put that on your application."
He said, "But I was born in Africa."
The HR rep said, "That's not the way we use that term here......."
He said, "Oh - then you mean "black ... No - I'm not black"
The HR person said, "We don't call people "black" ... we call them African-American ..... "
The guy said, "Well - that's me !!!"
He wasn't about to let them off the hook - he knew darn well what he was doing - but to watch the politically correct HR rep squirm was well worth it."They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
Benjamin Franklin, 1759
"Living in our society is like living in a very tall building. The rich live on the top floors. The poor live on the lowest floors. And only the cops travel to all the floors. Only the cops see it all."

Oh lord thats to funny, at the same time it just goes to show that something are changing finally in the way people think. Goes to show that these companies that are around need to redue their applications and start being correct about the terminology that they use.Being the best is not what always counts. What counts is always trying your best.
Remember who you are, and where you came from. That way you never get a big head.
May those that lost their lives in 9-11 RIP, for the things you did not many could do. You left so many behind so that you could save so few. For now we stand strong as one, and will not look back till the fight is done. (me)

Well thanks for all teh welcomes, it is great.
Punisher to answer your question may take some space. At one point in time we had the highest homicide per capita rate in the world. That figure is coming down. With regard to cop killings, we are being murdered for our guns, no other reason. We have a National Police Service of approximately 120 000 members serving 48 million people. The Service is managed in Provinces ( 9 provinces ) each with a number of Areas ( metropolitan precincts ). I belong to a National Component, and we currently have only 105 trained Bomb Techs to serve the whole country. What we lack for in resources we make up for in inovation.
The period between 1990 and 1995 saw the most cops being killed. Last year we lost about 300 Officers in the line of duty. The bad guys are armed with automatic weapons ( ala the Hollywood Bank Robbery ) and usually outnumber the officers responding to the call. Since the inception of swat training as compulsory for all members, the number of officers down has dimished a whole lot. fact is you can not defend yourself against a gang armed with AK-47's if you have a 9 mm pistol and 15 rounds at your disposal. Of late however the bad guys are getting their share. For a time, constitutional issues with regard to the use of deadly force, made teh officers hesitant to defend themselves. That I am glad to say have been resolved and have had a positive impact on the cop/bad guy ratio.
I hope that answered your question. If not feel free to pm me or send me a mail.
