    Hi from Calgary, Alberta

    Hi all from the White North. I'm a cop in Calgary and before that I was a police officer in the UK. Interested to see how this forum turns out. Happy new year all and be careful out there.

    I was in York, North Yorkshire for 8 years. For those not familiar with UK that's half way up on the right hand side.

    Differences

    There aren't that many really. The law in Canada is based mainly on UK law so the Criminal code is pretty similar with the same powers of arrest. The lawful detention is different but no one seems to use it anyway. It's pretty much the same customers with the same problems and the same addictions. Instead of Heroin we have Morphine but there is the Crack and the growing threat of Meth.
    The policing style is a little more aggressive and less polite but no problems there. I always let the public dictate what tone the conversation will take anyway.
    There are definately a lot more resources here, for example we didn't have CAD in UK and that is a great aide to policing as long as you remember to look up every now and then.
    It's great being back out working again and it's amazing how much you miss the job. I was only out for about a year whilst we emigrated and got settled but it feels good to be back.
