I was ready to apply, but I'm not moving to Denton county.
"Somewhere a True Believer is training to kill you.
He is training with minimum food or water, in austere conditions, day and night.
The only thing clean on him is his weapon.
He doesn't worry about what workout to do---his rucksack weighs what it weighs, and he runs until the enemy stops chasing him.
The True Believer doesn't care "how hard it is"; he knows he either wins or he dies.
He doesn't go home at 1700; he is home.
He knows only the Cause.
Now, who wants to quit?"
"I am only one, but I am one. I can not do everything, but I can do something. And because I can not do everything I will not refuse to do the something that I can do. What I can do I should do. And what I should do, by the Grace of God, I will do."

I have been kicking it around to move to Denton, and apply. But I am not sure if I want to move back to the Metro Mess again, plus having to start all over doesn't appeal to me either.

If you do move, I think big things are about to happen out around Dish, TX (around Ponder, just a few miles from Denton). It was called Clark, TX until Dish Network offered all the residents free service for renaming the town to "Dish".
It just seems like the developers are moving into the area, so buying a trailer & some land out there may not be a bad thing to do. My brother-in-law lives out there.
I haven't investagated what all they have planned out there, but it may be worth looking at - Perhaps it's just a housing development or something, I'm not sure.Last edited by TXCharlie; 12-25-06 at 01:31 PM.

I lived and worked in Denton for two years.
DCSO is a great agency. The current sheriff won last year taking Weldon Lucas out of office. The current sheriff is a cops cop, having left Denton PD as a detective before winning sheriff. He has really cleaned house.
I worked with them just about every day since UNT is in Denton County. We would back each other on traffic on I-35 constantly.
I would not hesitate in applying there, boys.

Yes, Sheriff Benny Parkey is a very nice guy. I attended the Sheriff's debates and he was very professional all the way through.
I voted for Leveling, but Parkey was my 2nd choice and my wife's first choice...
There were a couple of flakes in the box who I'm sure glad didn't get it - In his campaign literature, one of the flakes send copies of his Texas Drivers' License, CHL card, Retired Federal LEO ID card, SSN card, town Reserve PD ID card (our Reserves don't even exist anymore under our current Chief), and several other things to a bunch of residents to prove he was qualified.
The numbers, DOB, etc, on all the cards were readable... When I got them in the mail, I was truly dumbfounded that a Sheriff candidate has apparently never heard of ID theft

You may have missed out this go-around... their web site looks like there's a few jobs missing, but I bet they always need jailers

If you get something up there TxCOP, don't forget to call me for a ride-along
