Hey, Lazy Fed... I'm curious. The link included this
I know it used to be that if BP hired you -- you started down south, almost without exception. Has it changed? Or are they bluffing these people?2) We have an urgent need for CBP Officers in the following locations: Montana; North Dakota; New York-Buffalo; Vermont; Washington-Northern Border Locations; Washington-All Other Locations; and Calexico, California which is part of the California-Southwest Border Locations. Due to this need, applicants who indicate one of the aforementioned locations will have a greater probability of being referred and selected immediately.Voting against incumbents until we get a Congress that does its job.

Took the test yesterday.

For those who are interested:
CBP is a good place to work. We have good job security, great pay and a decent opportunity to go places.
CBP is NOT a high speed low drag kind of agency. We are just now getting some SRTs going and they do look promising.
People see the go fast boats and Blackhawk helicoptors and think that that's what we do; but the truth is that we are pretty well stationary. Just wanted to give that heads up.
If any one has any questions, please post them here. John and I will be happy to help if we can.

The only question I have is how long do you stay at that pay grade?
That would be a pretty damn hefty pay cut if I stayed in Washington.I'm your huckleberry...

Where can I find out what a GS-07 starts at in Washington, and what 9 and 11 add up to?
(and if they ask who sent me, should I give them your card?)I'm your huckleberry...

ok, so we show up at the test site and they dont have a complete list of the number of people showing up to take the test. The test people had only enough supplies for 125 testers. there were atleast 135-140 there. I WAS NUMBER 126!!!!!
My wife made it in (she was number 125) and I stood around for 5 friggin hours while she took the test. They tried to make it better by saying usually there are 130 people scheduled to test and only 80 show up. Now I cant test because of prior commitments the only two other days they have scheduled. commitments made because I was testing today!!!
Is this an omen?

It scares me that they felt the need to clarify on the announcement that the pay is in USD.

We heard the Prez is trying to revoke it, but I don't know how much weight it has that it would be revoked.
We will have a hybrid version of 6c, that is a little better in my opinion. We will keep our overtime and shift diff plan that we currently have, and it will be married to the 6c retirement.
The traditional 6c coverage pays out 25% for the OT (over the year) to cover for case loads, etc. But we have no case load. I leave work at work.
(Good part of the job).
With our system you get DOUBLE time for anything over 8hrs (40hrs week). Afternoons is 15% and mids at 20%. Sundays at 50%.
Keep in mind that a GS 5 or maybe a GS 7 is where you will start. But don't let that scare you too badly. It climbs up to GS 9 and 11 rather quickly. So things might be tight for the first couple years, but it will pay off in the end.
I have been here 4.5 years; got hired as a GS 7 (30-35k). This last year, I grossed over 80k as a GS11-2 (58k) with little OT. Now I am at GS 11-3 (65k) and am on track to hit 90k at a 11-4, still with little OT.
Lazy Fed and Mrs. Lazy Fed hit the OT a lot more than I do, and they live pretty well even with 80 kids running around the house.
Good luck on the test.
