The State of Alaska, Department of Public Safety, is recruiting for experienced certified police officers. Successful applicants will attend a 7-week lateral academy in Sitka, Alaska and then be placed directly into the 15-week field training program at a trooper post at the Department’s discretion. This posting is for applicants who are interested in patrol or wildlife positions.
The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is Alaska's primary law enforcement agency whose responsibilities encompass the enforcement of federal, state, and local laws.
DPS has two law enforcement divisions: the Alaska State Troopers and the Alaska Wildlife Troopers. The Division of Alaska State Troopers’ main responsibility is the enforcement of all criminal and traffic laws, identification and apprehension of violators, and the prevention of crime and traffic violations. Specialized functions include: white collar crime, complex criminal investigations, drug and alcohol investigations, warrant service, prisoner transport, and search and rescue missions.
The Division of Alaska Wildlife Troopers’ main responsibility is to protect Alaska’s wildlife resources through education and enforcement of laws and regulations governing the use of natural resources within Alaska and its adjacent waters. The Wildlife Troopers also participate in the overall mission of the Department of Public Safety through enforcement of criminal laws and participation in search and rescue operations.
