Baton Rouge PD hiring certified cops

Just found out that Baton Rouge Police Department (Louisiana) is doing a hiring round and is looking to hire a few experienced cops before the end of the year - I don't have a ton of details, but from what I've heard here's what I have. The process is going to go fast, so if you're interested, move quickly.

    3 years road experience
    POST (or equivalent) certified
    pass civil service test
    pass physical assessment test

The department will hold an abbreviated "academy" for the new officers, to familiarize them with department policy, city statutes, etc.

I put academy in quotations, because from what I understand it's going to be much shorter than the regular academy that BRPD holds for it's newly hired officers.

Any current LEO who may be thinking about a move, and may be interested, more information and who to contact at the link.

Dude, is that pay for real? How does that compare down there?

There are some officers here in this area that make less then that. Most are in that range though

The pay is definitely real Mac. It isn't not comparable to smaller agencies but is for larger ones.
    Examples
Lafayette Police Department Police Officer Recruiting
New Orleans Police Department : Salary and Benefits
    Kenner Police Department
and a large Sheriff's office thrown in for good measure
    Human Resources

I would have to say that if I were at all into big(ger) city enforcement I would apply to Baton Rouge City asap. I have met the Chief, Jeff Leduff, several times. He came from the road, was assigned to and over the motors division if I am correct. He seems down to earth, approachable and has publicly backed his officers several times. I'm sure the grass isn't always greener in the other pasture and I'm sure he's not liked by every officer.
There is also a union involved and plenty of off duty work available. I've been approached several times by merchants to work security even though I can't being from another jurisdiction. There just doesn't seem to be enough officers to go around. The off duty pay isn't bad either, I hear, although I don't know exactly what it is.
In my opinion BRPD is the agency to look to in this area. That is if you can handle the heat. No, I am not referring to the heat in the streets either. I'm talking heat and humidity. I guess the downsides are an overcrowded judicial system including the jails which make for dealing with the same customers over and over. I'm sure you can still find the "old south" mentality from time to time as well if you look hard enough. I simply refuse to abide by it and everyone around me knows it so people avoid me with it. A straight forward open attitude against it seems to work well for me.
There is also the crime rate. Just look at any local news paper or TV channel and you can see what I mean. Of course that story happens all around the country and not just here. I hope that BRPD attracts some good candidates. I have always had a good working relationship with every BRPD officer I've come in contact with. Aside from Twan I have another friend and former co worker with whom I just spoke with today who says he still loves it.
Louisiana (I can't believe I'm saying this) also seems to have faired well during the economic situation. As always budgets are being adjusted and cut but still, so far so good. Housing is not bad either if you find the right place.
Damn. Did I just promote Louisiana?

yeah Mac, that's actually not too shabby to start out at around here - thing is, BRPD kicks it up a little bit for the guys with experience (I don't remember how much exactly, but I know it's a little bit) plus they have incentives for college (I think 75 hours has a pay bump, and bachelors has another pay bump)

Standard of Living isn't high down here - so the pay is reasonable (compared to neighbors)

and I'm pretty sure they're even starting the basic guys out at around 34-35k a year now matter of fact (don't quote me on that one tho)
