Dallas Police Offering $10,000 Sign-On Bonus to New Hires
Join The Force And Make A Difference And Receive A $10,000 BONUS!
http://recruiting.dallaspolice.net/index.cfm?subnav=0
NOTE:
Update 5/8/06: Ok here's the answer I finally got from the DPD on the dispersal of the $10,000 sign-on bonus - And they also told me that they need 200 applicants by October!
Update 5/4/06: I just found out from the Channel 11 web site that this is not a lump-sum bonus. So if what they say is true, it's almost false advertising, because it's really just an 82-week pay bump:you'll get 6,000 after the academy and 4,000 after you pass probation.....which is 1 1/2 years.....
http://cbs11tv.com/topstories/local_...116185753.html
Still it's an extra $121 per week on average over 82 weeks - better than a poke in the eye.The city council agrees there's a need for more officers. The members voted unanimously to pay new recruits a $10,000 incentive bonus. It will be spread over 82 weeks as both a means of keeping them on the job and to avoid entering into individual work contracts with them.

Tossing that much cash at people = where's the problem? Something's not right if that's required to meet recruiting expectations. Either the pay is low or the area majorly sucks. Or both.

I have an extended family member in the DPD - He really likes Chief Kunkle.
And they finally got cages in their cars!
They're overworked & underpaid, and a lot of them are working in communities that don't appreciate them, but their DROP retirement program is supposed to be good.

I agree - you can't appreciate Dallas until you've lived here a while then go to Chicago or something - then you say "why the hell did I leave Dallas!!!"

Actually the northern suburbs are what's rocking now - Especially Lewisville, Frisco, Plano, Allen, and that area...
Best of all I don't need no stinkin' taxi cab or bus - I can go wherever I need to go in my car, thank you very much, and my car tag is only $50/year, no State income tax... and (pay attention Welpe): We can buy 15-round magazines and have Shall-Issue CHL's

I never really considered Dallas and Houston as really Texas.
The pay scale posted isn't all that bad. A lot of depts are having trouble recruiting. We pay pretty well and I know they are willing to pay up to 5 grand in moving expenses for successful applicants. When I used to be somebody (I'm center top)

According to reports I've received, the $10,000 bonus is spread out over
several months or years.
Yet your web site says receive "A $10,000 bonus", implying a lump-sum
dispersal - and does not mention the details of how it will be spread out.
Please explain
Thanks
