How's the job hiring out in Texas? Anyone ever challenged their academy test as a lateral from another state? Thinking of moving there, just curious!

There are plenty of job openings in the DFW (Dallas / Ft Worth) area. Depending on where you go, the starting pay range is around 35K to 45K. Some agencies will do lateral transfers, but I don't know about from another state. The TCLEOSE test is supposed to be a fairly tough test now...You may challenge it without having to go through another academy.Quote:

Thanks, I'll check out that site. The pay is less then where I am at but I'm thinking cost of living is probably lower also. Thanks for the info!
My sister has been trying to talk me into joining her in Houston. I see they're taking laterals, according to their ad in APB last month. I looked around TX sites awhile ago and there seemed to be a lot of agencies hiring. I lived in S. TX for a couple of years and really liked it down there.
Tons of smaller agencies in the Tx Hillcountry are starting out between 37-40
grand w/ a $2K signing bonus. Houston PD & Austin PD are always taking new hires. The State Exam is known to be a tough if you are transfering from another state. But it's passable. Good luck on your venture. Oh yeah... the cost of living is through the roof in Austin but APD pays very well.
Thanks everyone for the info......I'm working on getting some study material to see what all is involved on the test.
My girlfriend has been trying to talk me into moving to Texas. She used to live there and loved it. I will consider it once I visit to check it out but i'd like to avoid going through another full academy.
