When you coming out again? I go back to graves on Monday night. I can't WAIT. We don't take riders on graves due to the types of calls, but active LEOs are the exception.

    Score!

As for when my ass will be back out there... it's sad to say, but I'm not sure do to how poor I am at the moment. Until she gets a job I'm pretty much fucked on money. I was supposed to come out last weekend for my buddies wedding but I just couldn't scare up the cash.

I also have to make sure my days off match to as I am running low on comp and vacation time. Fingers are CROSSED for an agency to pick me up. Fiance has an interview with Fort Collins Public Defenders office as an investigator. That would be a sweet gig for her and I could stash some money till I pick up a job back home.

The other possibility... is for me to leave full time LE for a while. There is another job I am looking into in Loveland, working for the Dept. of Energy, but it's a longshot. I am qualified to do it and the pay is retarded. Once out of training (2 years) I would be making over $120k with overtime.

It really is a longshot though. I would prolly jump on with a county as a reserve for fun

Probably just a wet $ dream though. I have cop blood now anyway.

Yes they do. They will issue what is called a "provisional" certificate providing I complete the written and skills test out process within 6 months. The link Pat provided is excellent.

I have all of the paperwork in order for my provisional. I am waiting till payday gets here because CBI needs $49 bucks to run my CCH and prints.

Fiancee called to tell me this letter was in the mail today. Looks like they are kicking all of the non-certified applicants and revamping the list. I am 16 now till September. Woot! *fingers crossed* I would LOVE to work here.

    Colorado

I spent most of my career working in Colorado. It really is a great place to live. Remember the Texas Seven?! I was telling Garco the other night that I worked for the po' dunk S.O. that rounded them up. If you ever see the Texas Seven spotlight on Discovery channel or A and E, I'm the female deputy with the black leather jacket (and the really pissed off look) escorting George Rivas (the cop killer). I know he was sentenced to death but does anyone know if he's dead yet?

I'm not trying to gloat, but that incident was really a career high. Our boys were outstanding surrounding the camper with their AR's for 16 hours while the FBI took there coffee breaks every hour.

"po' dunk", you must be talking bout Teller County. I remember that year, we lost a Trooper then. I also wonder if Rivas is still alive.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Rivas

George Rivas (born May 6, 1970) is the former ringleader of the infamous Texas 7 criminal group. Rivas, a career criminal, is on Texas' death row.

He was born in El Paso, Texas and raised by his grandparents from age six, after his parents divorced. In high school, Rivas dreamed of being a police officer, but his desire for money and guns helped shape him into a criminal. He named his dogs Ruger and Baretta, after two gun brands.

One year after graduating from Ysleta High School, he committed his first robbery and burglary. Since he had no prior criminal record, he was sentenced to ten years of probation. Meanwhile, he enrolled as a general studies major at the University of Texas at El Paso. He dropped out after three semesters, in the spring of 1993.

He eventually committed a string of robberies. He robbed a Radio Shack in El Paso on October 3, 1992; On October 23, he robbed a Checker's Auto Parts store. About two weeks later, he robbed an Oshman's sporting goods store. On May 12, 1993, he robbed a Furr's Grocery store in El Paso; and on May 25, 1993, Rivas and a friend robbed a Toys "Я" Us. He was arrested after this robbery and suspected of having robbed stores in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.

Rivas was sentenced to 18 terms of life in prison, 17 of them consecutive. After a few years, he developed a plan to escape.

Rivas, along with six other men, broke out of the John Connally Unit in Kenedy, Texas on December 13, 2000. The following day, on December 14, he and his teammates robbed a Radio Shack in Pearland, Texas.

On December 24, the group robbed an Oshman's in Irving, Texas. He and his group shot and killed a police officer named Aubrey Hawkins. The reward for him and his accomplices grew after the infamous robbery and murder.

Rivas was arrested at a trailer park in Colorado on January 23, 2001 inside a Jeep Cherokee, with Joseph Garcia and Michael Rodriguez. Three others – Randy Halprin, Patrick Murphy and Donald Newbury, were arrested over the next two days. Larry Harper killed himself.

Rivas was extradited to Texas, tried and sentenced to death – the penalty he asked for. He is still on death row.

Subsequent to his conviction, Rivas married a woman he corresponded with throughout his capital murder trial.

Ive always thought Colorado would be a nice place to move to and work in. With-out stepping on any toes...what is the best depts. to go work for there. And which ones have the best pay to cost of living for the area? Not going to be to long and I leave the mission here and that would be the perfect time to move and start somewhere new.

    Big Dawg,

It all depends what kind of policing you wanna do. If you are more into the mountains and the outdoors, there are plenty of departments in the mountains that are worth looking at. If you wanna stay busy, there are tons of departmets in the Denver Metro. It all depends. Just wondering were are you located at? Im sure there couple of the other officers in Colorado will chime in.

Pat, Julie... Thanks guys! I hope everything works out for me.
Pat, I have received a letter from a few small agencies that are a little far from where I want to be as far as a commute. I think Eagle and Fort Lupton have sent me letters but I really want to try and stay near Larimer County. I'm thinking heavily about CSP too. Just need to get married in October so I want to make sure I wouldn't get hired there until the next session academy in January..

I'm still weary of going through another academy so I hope Greeley picks me up.

    Co_Cop,
I was with a Sheriff's Office full-time In N.C. for over 10 years before I changed my status to P-T and went to work with the United Nations two years ago. While at the S.O. I worked every Division they had; Civil, Patrol, Narcotics, Jail, Warrants, and finally as a Det. Sgt. working Financial crimes. I started and ran the Sheriff's Underwater Recovery Team, and was Co-Supervisor of the County Swift-Water Rescue Team. I'm a NC certified Instructor for Police Standards, Sheriff Standards, and Detention Standards. I'm not branging or anything don't get me wrong, just trying to give a short history so you know where Im coming from. I don't agree with the way the Sheriff is running his dept (good ol' boy policy) and that was why I left, and why I wont go back. I have thought of going to other dept's in NC, but if I wanted to move and "start over" now is the time to do it. Ive thought of going to High Point Greensboro area of NC also. I've just gotten re-married to a great Dominican Lady, so I cant go where it's to cold for her sake..lol. My current contract runs till January 2007 with the United Nations. So if Im going to start a process for a new dept. I need to start thinking about it now. As for where I want to go, Im not fully decided. I would like to be somewhere where there are nice summers, (not to hot) but again not extreme winters....good luck right?? lol Anyway that is where I stand, anyone help a poor lost Officer? Thanks for everything folks!!!

I just got a call today from a Sergeant with Glendale PD in the Denver area. He got a copy of my COPS test scores and is interested in me. Small department and SMALL city completely surrounded by Denver. The city is about one square mile in size. Sergeant was very cool. They start about $43k. He says they are at about 22 or so officers and should have about 30 but the budget is hurting a bit.

He says they are picking up 3 people. I am interested although it's a little far from Fort Collins. What do you guys think? He says I should receive a letter in about 2-3 weeks and that they can try and fit all of my testing into a 2 day period since I am out of state.

What say yee about Glendale PD?

Cochese, I'm not too sure about what the working conditions are in Glendale. What I DO know, however, is it is comprised almost solely of nudie bars. That area that Glendale comprises (Colorado Blvd, Monaco Pkwy, Alameda Ave., Leetsdale Ave, etc, etc) is its own little district of booby clubs, porno shops, restaurants, etc. Don't know exactly how much of a residential area there is.

EDIT: I work in a city of about 1.77 square miles, and those Glendale guys often compare themselves to us. The size is about where the similiarty ends though, IMO. I have a total population of a little over 20K. I doubt that theirs is anywhere near that, as they are mostly commercial. Working in a city of their compostion would probably make for exciting graveyards on weekends and some weekdays I suppose, but the rest of the time I imagine time would drag when all those businesses are closed during the workday.
