I prefer dogs since I have had quite a few in my lifetime and have one now, but cats are ok too.

Dogs,
well do to the fact that we train Police K9's, shepards/ mali's,
I am going with dogs. they will be there for you when you need them, even in a life/death situation,
cats usually run for cover, and hide until alls clear.
not to mention the lazy ass cat that we have siamese/hemalyan eats, shits, and sleeps all day.

I have had some very crazy cats, thats why I prefer dogs, but my dog is very hyper and destructive sometimes!! LOL

Have both, and I'll say my cats rock. I've trained them to come when called, are affectionate, and they play with me. My dogs are good at licking their genitals very loudly. That's really about it.

I prefer dogs but don't telll my 2 cats. I am with Ducky....my cats rock!! Very affectionate and cuddly and love to lay in bed with myself of my husband or lay on the couch. Wherever we are they are.

Im a dog person all the way.........but I do have to say that cats have their place. I mean they do make great moving targets when sighting in weapons.
