Postcard from D.C.

Here's your Postcard, LEF. We wish (more of you) were here! Emily, Conalabu, some other non-LEF buddies, and I hadd a great time in Old Town Alexandria last night, discovering the 'evils' of Bugsy's Pizzeria. (Calzones from HELL).

Thought I'd share some of the first day with you in the following pictures. Enjoy!

Washington Monument, Capitol

Youngster signs "I love you, Dad," next to his father's name on the hood of the Taser Hummer. The names on the hood are those of LEO's killed in the line of duty, 2006.

He told me that you were one tenacious vicious little dude. But generally a nice guy.

To throw my ten cents in about the rest of the trip...Wow. The memorial is something that everyone should go to and be a part of at least once. Very powerful...for a few reasons. To be shoulder to shoulder with that many other officers and be part of that rememberance...amazing. To be in a city where everywhere you go there is a brother or sister with a badge, virtually every place you turn...awesome.

Countybear and the captain he brought were two of the nicest guys I have had the pleasure of meeting in a long time. In all honesty, all the officers I met this weekend were exactly what I had hoped I would find. A true brotherhood. I am hoping next year, we can make this into a bigger deal for LEF. Meeting Hanibal and his pack of wild feds on Sunday after the vigil was a great time had by all as war stories were swapped and jokes laughed at (mostly at the Nebraska participents expense). If any of you have the opportunity to sit with Countybear and listen to him tell a story, it is well worth it. But I do suggest having the captain with him (he throws in little jibes and comments at County, who gets so into his story telling that he misses them so all the comments and jibes are all the funnier for being ignored). Don't ya wish ya had been there?

I know way too well about countybear and his "story telling"

Try being around him on a day to day basis, then see if his stories are as entertaining.

Me too. I have a cousin that lives there, and she keeps saying we should come.

I really want to make it a "trip" with my son, and see the surrounding area as well.

It is well worth it, P, and I would love to see a bigger group go next year from LEF. Maybe we make some plans earlier this time for people to meet up for NLEOM next year.

I think I'm gonna start a special savings account. I just checked airfare prices, and both JetBlue and Southwest fly direct.

Next year the 15th falls on a Thursday. Do they always start things the weekend before?
