Just to be fair though, Apple's not the only company selling goofy glass faced touch products nobody really needs.

I just want my phone to send and recieve phone calls. Text messages are okay, but not a priority. Other than that, I have no use for the bells and whistles.

The new Microsoft Surface graphical interface looks like a really cool way to slow Windows down some more, while hiding everything under "yet one more layer" of overhead.

I hope I can retire before we start seeing that in the workplace - Programmers had enough trouble getting all the cool new features to work that were introduced by .NET, now we'll probably have a whole new set of problems when they release this shit.

You've summed it up nicely. New products do come out all the time. Every now and then one gets fully embraced by the hype cycle. (PlayStation 3 was the most recent before this, and it was a flop). I just enjoy mocking the hype. Its part of my ongoing social commentary
