Skywatch Towers on a Budget, Louisiana Style
Who says a Skywatch Tower has to cost $75,000?
This is a picture I took of the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Skywatch Tower at Pecanland Mall in Monroe, Louisiana this past weekend.
As you can see, they do what they can do on their meager little budget - That's a $300 deer stand frame, enclosed in plywood

It's for spotting car burglars at the shopping malls, and muggers/fights at fairs and concerts.

I was guessing it had something to do with storm spotting...but also thought that was retarded. Why would you want to be up in a deer stand tower during a storm?

Sounds better equiped than most Police stations!
Maybe we should just employ taller Police officers.

See, I always thought it would be cool to paint the towers black and then apply evil looking smile ala warbirds on the sides. Add a PA in which you could make a noise like Darth Vader. It would be all CDI. Think it might generate a complaint?

If it works who cares what it looks like. Just make sure the guy inside has a sniper model paint gun for easy marking (strickly for I.D. purposes, not for the sheer fun of it.)
