The trip over the Alcan

So in Dec 07 my wife and three kids flew up to Alaska to get settled in with stuff. I had to finish up the final few weeks at my job then one of my brothers flew down from Anchorage to make the drive back with me. The trip was 5400+ miles long and we did it in 87.5 hours straight. Here are some of the pics...

well one slept while the other drove. But it was such a scenic and exciting trip we really didn't do a whole lot of sleeping...

We actually averaged about 26 mpg, so we spent about 1100 on fuel. Canada was wicked expensive...

The ruts were frozen, but the entire length of highway was basically black ice. The coldest temp we had was about -30, but there were times it may have actually been a little colder. At least the heat never stopped working...

My father in law makes that drive frequently out of Alberta.

I *so* badly want to move up there and work.

Wife says no way, she grew up with it.

It took me and my brothers two years to talk my wife into it. Now that we're up here we love it. You should keep on her, APD pays pretty well, and Anchorage is a nice smallish city, but with everything you need...
