Ah, so you do salt water? Too much maitenance for me. Although the fish are very pretty, but some are really expensive. Nice set up you have there, though. I have a 20 gal Eclipse in storage and am currently running a 30 gal Eclipse fresh water with assorted tetras, skirts, etc. I would have pics but tank is undergoing health maintenance at the moment.

Actually I find saltwater easier to maintain then fresh water. All I do is a water change monthly, and let the tank thrive. Everything is alive in there, I have a couple starfishes, crabs, worms, feather dusters, ETC in there

Once you get it set up, but it seems to be really expensive fish and plant wise to start out. Don't you have to pay really close attention to your ph levels as well? I would hate to have fish die on me. I just can't see spending $20.00 to $30.00 for one fish.

You have to make salinity levels ok, Nitrate, PH, Ect. and your fishes will be ok! that clown fish I have had for 4 years, im surprised he has survived this long.

Thats what I thought. I had 3 silver dollar tetras that I bought for $5 a piece that lasted me for about 5 yrs before I had a heater malfunction and they got fried on me. I was not a happy camper. They were the size of nickels when I bought them and they grew past the size of silver dollars. To buy them at that size now I would have to spend $20.00-$30.00 a piece.
It just seems like a hassle to get the salinity levels just perfect. With my fresh water I don't have to watch it as closely. I have never tried salt water and my wife is a bit of a penny pincher if you know what I mean. At least she went with top of the line tanks and filter systems.
I have learned that with some fish you have to match their agressivity and size otherwise you will have fish picking on and eating other fish.
Also that Cichlids are like pirannahs, they won't exist with anything else or so I am told.
Aren't clown fish the ones who can live with anemones and not have problems?

We dallied under
Vine maples and sapling alders
Searched for lady slippers
But instead
Found blackberry riots and
Desiccated branches
An old skid road
Brought ghost ferns and
Hollows filled with
Skunk cabbage
While waves wrapped
Intricate lacings of weeds
'Round mule spinners
His cyanotic eyes
Were hard enough to make
The sun turn tail and
Tender enough to attract me
To his world of illusion

I used to have a salt water tank many years ago. I lucked out because we would go snorkling and get our own fish. I have a few friends who collect tropicals for a living, but at the time we would put a piece of liver in a large jar and the fish would swim in for the liver and we'd snap the lid back on. Now that was a pretty basic way to do it and you had to have alot of patience but we got a few that way.
My dad, I miss him every day.
