The Watchmen
I work off-duty at a movie theater, so if it's really slow, I get to take in a movie once in a while. Last night, I saw the first half of "The Watchmen" (got busy and had to miss the last 1.5 hours...yes, it is long). What is the deal with the giant glowing blue penis? I mean...seriously. Can't Dr. Manhattan wear some Lt. Dangle-style short shorts or some cargos or somethign? Just because he's an odd blue radiating giant doesn't mean he can't wear pants.

Yeah, I heard about that. LOL.

Is that the real reason you missed the rest of the movie?

You have to understand the character. Why do we where clothes? To keep us warm and to avoid embarassment, right? These concepts are probably beyond Dr. Manhattan. He is emotionally detached, and doesn't need protection from anything.
I think it goes far to show his detachment from the human condition.

I just read the Wikipedia synopsis (which includes a description of the ending). Interesting moral philosophy--it seems to imply that the terrorists are right!

Me, too.
No, he wanted to destroy a small portion of one city to unite the two super-powers against a common enemy. Terrorists want to kill anyone who doesn't hold their beliefs. While I disagree with his tactics, Ozymandias' plot makes sense. But I guess I see your point.
"If everyone is thinking alike, then someone isn't thinking." -Gen. George S. Patton

The Wikipedia article here (warning: spoilers) said the movie ended thus
( highlight to see spoilers): "Veidt, dressed as Ozymandias, informs them that he was using Dr. Manhattan to carry out a plan to unify humanity by destroying the world's main cities.... All across the world, Dr. Manhattan's SQUIDs explode and obliterate their host cities, leaving 15 million dead. Not that Wikipedia is all that reliable; it's just hard to find spoiler-filled synopses of currently playing films elsewhere.

Carrying this to PM. Jenna, may want to move the text down a little.

It's a sad statement on soceity and humanity in general that people feel compelled to make issue about a flacid penis, but the violence and gore is never mentioned.

It was a weird movie. But pretty heavy and entertaining. Rorschach was my favorite character, he kicked major ass. His fight scene in the cafeteria, and his line at the end of it was the funniest part of the movie.
I didn't care for some of the graphic violence, it was unnecessary. Just like the nudity, including the giant blue dong. That which does not kill me, better start fucking running.
