I grew-up in the Muscle car era. My best friend at the time, had a Ford Mustang with a 351. I had a '69 Chevelle with a 350 that would blow his doors off on any given day. Given the quality of American autos today, I'd probably go with the Ford, as much as it hurts me to say that!

He must have had a 351 Windsor. I would be interested to see this if it was a 351 Cleveland. The only thing a Cleveland and a Windsor have in common is that they are V8's. What year was the Mustang?

I believe the rear set is 3.26:1 or so....kinda low, but good for mileage I guess.

That's about the same as the 4th gen if I'm not mistaken the autos had 2.73 and the standards had 3.23. All in all I'm not real happy with any of the car choices that are currently available. I guess I'll have to keep the terminator for a few more years.

    I believe it was a '69. It also had a 3-speed-automatic.

Ah, ok. The 69 was the only one of the early Mustangs to have 4 headlights up front. The 351C was not installed in a Mustang until 1970. 4sp standard with the factory Hurst linkage would have been better and it is no wonder that your 350 would have beat him. The 351W had less hp than the 351C. If I remember correctly for Automatics, the 351W had a C4 or a FMX behind it. The 351C had a C6 which was a heavier duty trans for the extra hp that the 351C carried.

I used to own a 66 Mustang coupe and a 70 Sportsroof (fastback, one step below a Mach 1)

I also had access (my dads) to a 69 El Camino that had a 307 with 327 heads and a powerglide. Still no match for your 350 Chevelle, probably.

I've thought that all along myself when I heard of Pontiac's demise.

The G8 will be renamed as the Chevy Caprice and stays in the GM line.

Necro-bump, but this seemed the thread for it.

Hey Keith, how about a 2007 1969 Shelby Mustang? Best of both worlds...though double the Ford.

No, I didn't type two years by accident...

It's a conversion done by some folks calling themselves Retrobuilt. Bunches of pictures at their eBay auction if anyone wants to look at more. Pretty nifty though the modern roofline just doesn't work for me.

Almost any car (especially these retro styled cars) will benefit from lowering and changing the stance.

I hear you on that roofline. My first car was a 1970 SportsRoof. This retro is missing the rear quarter windows that the 69-70's had. Though it looked nice, the car was a royal pain to back up in reverse. Small mirrors and big blind spots. Add the SportSlats across the rear window and lets just say that you would try to avoid reverse as much as possible. Unless you had a spotter watching for you.

I wish the retro would have leaned a bit more toward the Shelby (65 Thunderbird) tail lights as opposed to the late model ones.

I wonder what they would do for a convertible.

Here is a real 69 Shelby for comparison purposes.
