Fight Science
Fight Science | National Geographic Channel
Anyone watch this show on Nat Geo? I saw an episode of it a few years back that compared a bunch of different martial arts styles. It was awesome. I thought it was a one episode special show. But now it's a weekly thing. It is badass...scientifically measures combat performance, strength across different disciplines, etc. Couple weeks ago they put a USMC scout sniper to the test, put a fighter pilot in a gyroscopic tumbler, tested a Ranger on a climbing wall and target discrimination course in simulated 15000 feet of altitude, etc. The one I most recently DVR'd did more with lesser known martial arts...capoeira, Muay Thai, Ninjutsu.
Bottom line, I love this show. Anyone else a fan? I just watched a new episode on the DVR.
Love it!
The one I just watched was a comparison of people using the various animal styles of kung fu to the real animals themselves.I'm your huckleberry...

Watch the one with the Seal and his performance after exposure to extreme cold and then a combat course. Followed by member of Mossad after exposure to dehydration. Bottom line from this show is if you are talented at playing a sport you work in the NFL, NBA ect. If you are talented at solving deadly threats in any condition you join Mossad or the Seals. The Mossad guy reminded me of the movie, You Don't Mess with the Zohan. Well the Zohan doesn't even walk in the same room as the guy from Mossad. That guy was real life Terminator.

I liked the original special. I like the ones where they test the various military types... and I'm willing to bet they'll pull cops in sometime, in some fashion. But the martial arts is getting terrible, other than the gee-whiz factor of how they do the tests. Free runners = modern ninja? Tilting/wobbling platform to simulate unpredictability of position in a fight?
Oh... and they aren't even trying to be correct about the people's backgrounds anymore. It was Simon Rhee that did the "karate" front kick... and he's a well known (ever see Best of the Best) Tae Kwon Do practitioner... At least one, and I'm pretty sure more, of the people doing animal style kung fu weren't even Chinese stylists, either...Voting against incumbents until we get a Congress that does its job.

Mac, I think he's referring to a different episode where they measured the force of a kick from different styles. Since they couldn't give them a real opponent that would be moving and evading, they wobbled the entire platform. And oh man, you gotta give them credit for that episode...the Mindy Kelly chick they had that did the "Entrapment" style laser beam evasion thing in the tight red jumpsuit was smoooookkking hot!
I still like the show."If anything worthwhile comes of this tragedy, it should be the realization by every citizen that often the only thing that stands between them and losing everything they hold dear... is the man wearing a badge." -- Ronald Reagan, in the wake of the deaths of 4 CHP troopers in the Newhall Incident, 1970

It's a great show and the ads for an upcoming version look like they are doing some testing with cops.
