You still have an internal memory that's considered an SD card which is where she wants to store apps.

This one, there isn't a single app that has that button. That's why I'm thinking rooting may be my only option.

ETA: I'm running Android 4.1.2 which as I understand is the one they ditched the move to SD option. So yeah, root.
Your EVO had 512 MB of internal memory. Running apps from the SD card was necessary. Your new LG has 4GB of internal memory. You just upgraded from the living room bookshelf to the Library of Congress. You would need a thousand apps to even start thinking about running out of room. Dumping the Apps to SD wasn't a decision to get rid of a cool feature, it's an unnecessary feature now that even low end phones make your EVO seem primitive.

If this is the only reason you want to root my recommendation is not to do it. It's not worth blowing your warranty because you want to run your phone like it was made in 2011. Just don't. You don't need to.

If you are dead set on it, the easiest method will be going to CyanogenMod.com and seeing if your phone is compatible with their new installer. Otherwise go to XDA Forums and start reading the rooting guides and risk bricking the phone. I've never rooted an LG and couldn't even tell you where to start.

The 4GB internal is more than half full with preinstalled apps and the OS. I've just about run out of room with adding the few additional I've installed. It's a common problem with this phone.

I still think you'll be hard pressed to fill it. XDA Forums has their forums separated by phone. Make sure you find the correct one for your phone. You also have to be careful to find the correct version of your phone too. European/International versions have different firmwares and radios. Likewise the phone can be different across carriers in the US. There are usually good guides for rooting with step by step instructions. Read the threads past the instructions, you'll see the common problems people run into and how to solve them.

The latest Google Developer phone, the Nexus 5 is on the truck for delivery today to my house. If you haven't figured out yet tinkering with Android Phones is my second hobby (OR my first!)

When I take it out of the box I'm not even going to boot it up. First I'll boot into fastboot and unlock the bootloader and then load a custom recovery and root access. By the time it's even turned on for me to use it will be hacked and customized.

The cool thing about hacking these phones is Google expects it and is pretty forgiving of unlocking them. Your phone company will tell you the warranty is void and you now own a brick. Buying the developer phone (Nexus) from Google means they expect it and will replace the phone for you.

I think I'll run the stock system for now. Android KitKat is pretty slick all on its own. But it'll be rooted and running the root apps I've grown accustomed to.

Nice. My S3 has been good, but doing just enough quirky stuff to have me wanting another. Sure, I could easily fix it, but it's more fun to dream of a new device.

For those interested in modding their phones but intimidated by the process of "flashing" ROM there's a potential solution for you.

The Xposed Framework allows modification of your system to get many of the features found in custom ROMs.

This does require root and a custom recovery. After that you can download the modules you want and run them. I wanted to run the stock Android on my new Nexus 5 because it's stable. But I was missing some of the UI features of Cyanogenmod as well as functionality of the Privacy Guard. I was able to use Xposed to get that stuff while running stock.

If you are interested read the first couple posts in this thread. If you want help rooting let me know.

Just wrapped my Note 3 in a Seidio Surface case. Less protection than before, but much more form fitting. Loving this phone, and I have barely scratched the surface on figuring out all the the things I can do.

SEIDIO | SURFACE with Metal Kickstand Case & Holster Combo for Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Best part is that I saved over $20 using Amazon Prime to get this case.

My antutu benchmark score is: 36540

    Stupid performance on this device.
