Wow, you've got to give it to the officer for not giving up and fighting like hell.
One thing I just cannot fathom though:
I don't know if most departments work this way but all the ones around here don't allow weapons in the booking area.Witt said he could feel Thomas reaching for a gun.*************************"It wouldn't take much for me to up and run...to another life somewhere in the sun."

Well done , Ofc. Witt. I like the way the other officers "assisted " the suspect back over the counter and onto the floor. I thought he was going to come out of his pants.

"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.

I've watched it a couple of times & I think the officer's holster is empty. Looks like the BG grabs at it, but it's empty.
To me 1 of the mistakes made is he's doing intake alone and moves to where the suspect is behind him. If you watch at about 00:08 the suspect telegraphs his intention to come over the counter. The officer actually turns to say something to him & the suspect goes all nonchalant. When the officer turns his back to him again; the suspect jumps over the counter.
It also looks to me like the officer intentionally drags the suspect over to the counter at about 00:38 and uses a radio or something to call for help. And then the butt whooping begins. Once the officer latches onto the suspect's neck he doesn't let go till help is there.
Overall, I'd say good job sir! Stayed in the fight; kept his head, did what needed to be done and won.Blessed are the the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. MATT 5:10

Great job brother!
We don't allow weapons in our booking area and if someone's being booked, we always make sure someone is in the next room monitoring on video to ensure a quick response if help is needed. The views expressed in the above post are the sole opinion of the author and do not reflect any official position by the author's employer and/or municipality.

We often book alone when we're busy. I sent this around so hopefully people will think twice. I agree about the 0:38 mark. He calmly and cooly requested cover (or appeared to), then turned around and proceeded to whoop ass.
And that choke out was one of the sexiest things I've seen in a while. I had zero compunction or sympathy for the guy. I don't care what some critics might say. You try to jump bad like this, you go to sleep....quickly and violently. This guy is lucky he woke up."If anything worthwhile comes of this tragedy, it should be the realization by every citizen that often the only thing that stands between them and losing everything they hold dear... is the man wearing a badge." -- Ronald Reagan, in the wake of the deaths of 4 CHP troopers in the Newhall Incident, 1970

With the perp's pants falling down, it almost looked like it should be "sexual assault on a police officer".

Police Officers put themselves at risk for strangers every day. Some do not make it home to their families. Next time you think of saying something negative about the police, remember...YOU are one of the strangers.

Officer Witt might not win in a foot race but I'm guessing alot more of the "customers" will think twice about trying that stunt again.
just as well help arrived, for the offenders sake anyway, don't think we have an ethnic classification for the skin colour blue.the sole advantage of power is that you can do more good.
