Nexus 10. I want one and a Kindle HD due to:

    1. Amount of reading I do.
    2. Amazon Prime Account = HD movies included = one HDMI cable to my TV to free HD movies.

Nexus 10 is the Apple equivalent to the Apple products, and it stacks up well.

ETA: The optimization of the 10 has improved dramatically since the above video. When the gripe about a product is that is was too advanced last year, that is not a bad gripe to have.....

I was never an Apple fan, but since getting an iPad that changed. I have no experience with any other tablets, so can't compare, however it is the best gadget I have ever bought!

I rarely turn on my computer anymore, as the iPad does everything I need. Even my Kindle only gets used if I want to read outside. Any books I buy for my Kindle are automatically on my iPad. The screen is pretty reflective though, but I think you can get matte screen protectors.

The FaceTime facility on Apple is free, so I get to see and talk to the family all the time. We even use it instead of a quick phone call to each other. The cameras are very good and a lot of people use the iPad instead of a regular camera.

There are thousands of apps available, covering anything that interests you. I even have all the sheet music I need for my orchestra on it. So one gadget replaces a huge music folder.

Battery life is around 10 hours of constant use.

I'm typing this in bed, on the iPad, before I read the news papers, on the iPad.

Other tablets are available, but they all want to be an iPad.

Oh and I like it so much I gave my Android phone to my wife and got an iPhone.

I have a Nexus 10 and I LOVE it. I can even play grand theft auto on it. I bring it with me on off duty details and run over hookers on construction details.

Best bet for kids is the Kindle Fire.

I use a Nexus, but that's a lot of tablet for a kid.

The only problem I have with the Kindle is you're locked into the Kindle ecosystem with it and the entire experience is geared towards spending money on Amazon. I didn't want that for the kids so they are on the Nexus 7 with the Kindle app, and the Nook app... It is a lot of tablet though, I think it is ok for them.

It's all about the Apps that are available and nothing compares to the iPad, both for quantity and quality.

I'm with Trojan on this one. We have an IPad and its great. We sync it with our phone as a hotspot so we don't have any extra Internet charge when we are out and about. Great battery life and the resolution is fantastic.

We're possibly getting these in our squads. If it's durable enough for a cop, you know it's durable enough for a kid

Then again, it's "somewhat" more expensive than consumer models

Too bad they ruined it with Windows. I'd rather have an ipad.

They also have it with Android. I'm only assuming it will run Windows for us so we can keep using the same programs we use on our Toughbooks right now.

We use the toughbook notebook in our cars, I think you might like it.

Right now we have the Toughbook laptops. It'll be interesting to see how the tablet works out. Supposed to have a bluetooth keyboard with it

Veering a little off topic here, the only kids who need toughbooks shouldn't have tablets. Even Moses wouldn't share his tablets with them.

If you're an Amazon family with the Prime and such there is an Amazon Kids program (for an additional fee) that restricts content in books/apps/video, has a parenteral timer to set how many minutes/hours of content can be used. It's a pretty narrow scope on the market that I find interesting, not wholly formed, but throw out there as it only works with the Amazon Kindles. I see it as a safe way to give an 8 year old a tablet that he'll root and replace the OS to get unrestricted content when he's 9.

I wonder how bluetooth will stand up to radio traffic.
