Police Search For Ex-Convict
BASEHOR, Kan. - A massive manhunt was underway Thursday morning for an ex-convict who allegedly threatened to kill anyone who got in his way.
Police told KCTV5 News that Kirtis Davenport stormed his estranged wife's apartment during the weekend.
Davenport, armed with a handgun, allegedly searched the apartment, looking for his wife's boyfriend, according to police.
KCTV5 News spoke to a detective who talked to Davenport by phone just after the incident.
Detective Lloyd Martley told KCTV5 News, "He said, 'If I'd a found the dude that was there, I'd of have killed him.' I said, 'Kirtis, were you carrying a weapon?' 'Absolutely, I was carryin' a weapon.' And I said, 'You know what that means?' And he says, 'It means I'm not goin' back to jail.'"
Police thought Davenport might be in the Kansas City, Kansas area, or possibly in Leavenworth, Kan.
They urged anyone with any information about his whereabouts to call police.
