Gunman Robs Teen Of Playstation 3
Associated Press

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — A gunman robbed a teenager of his new Sony PlayStation 3 game system in a mall parking lot on today, police said.
The 17-year-old victim said he was in the back seat of a car at the Lehigh Valley Mall when a man in his 20s tapped on the window with a handgun and demanded the teenager’s game system, authorities said. The suspect opened the door, put the gun to the teenager’s neck and took the system, then got into a car driven by another person and took off, police said.
The PlayStation 3 went on sale today, but tight supplies and strong demand led to long lines at stores around the nation.
Police reported several incidents of violence surrounding the debut of the PS3.
In Connecticut, authorities said two armed men tried to rob a line of people waiting for the game system to go on sale and shot a man who refused to give up his money. BB pellets were fired at people waiting outside a Best Buy store in Lexington, Ky.

I have PS2 as well. I have no intention of upgrading. People are crazy. In the New Ulm Journal today, they had an article about the college students that camped out from Wednesday afternoon until today. New Ulm was only selling 6. Two of the guys I go to school with...the others were from Mankato.

Exactly. I saw on the news the interviewed a guy who was waiting in line since Tuesday afternoon. He said as soon as he got his he was going to sell it on Ebay that very night. Apparently they're going anywhere from 2500 or more right now. That's some nice profit if you are willing to take the time to wait in line!
I also have a friend who is head of security at a department store. He said he watched a guy walk up to the beginning of a line and pay his buddy $1,000 cash just to hold a spot in line for him. After the guy got his money, his work was done and he left! Not bad either!Calm Like A Bomb...

This kind of thing is very common. I remember when the Jordan shoe retro styles were released we had hundreds of people gathering around the mall the night before and in the early a.m., all with cash in hand for these shoes. I don't remember the exact cost but I think they were about $225-250 a pair. Many people would buy two or three pair, so it wasn't uncommon to see them with 8 or 9 hundo each (many were kids 14/15yoa; where they got the cash
but I digress).
This obviously made for easy targets for people wanted to rob some quick loot. We had several armed robberies and strong arm robberies in the mall lots prior to these types of releases.
We had one group of guys that approached and robbed a whole line of people for their loot, then drove around the other side of the mall to rob another group where we caught up to them. After a quick chase we arrested the group and ended up with something like 22 counts of armed robbery and slew of other charges.
I remember that two of the guns we took off the subs were not loaded.
I guess they were robbing people so they could afford some ammo.

This is insane. It's just a toy. Robbing someone at gun point over a toy is just plain nuts. I wonder if any of it had to do with the violence in today's video games.
