Metro Officer Robbed and Left in Desert

A Metro officer ends up naked in the desert after picking up a prostitute. The crooks took his gun, badge and uniform. It's not the kind of story police want you to know, but inside sources tipped off Eyewitness News.

The police officer met a 17-year-old prostitute at a Las Vegas restaurant a couple of weeks ago.

Lieutenant Ted Snodgrass said, "He meets this gal inside the Denny's at Five Points East and they talked and they go across the street to the 7-11 where they buy some condoms and then they get in his car and then go to the rear there."

Lt. Snodgrass says robbers swooped in when Officer Walter Washington had his pants down. They stole his car, gun, badge and uniform. They torched his car and left him standing in the cold desert.

"It was my understanding that he was out there without pants or underpants and that he just had on a shirt and he called another corrections officer to bring him clothing. At first there were different stories that he gave the officers," Lt. Snodgrass continued.

Police records show Officer Walter Washington called his buddy, Officer James Jackson. Realizing they had to explain why Washington is missing his Metro gun, badge and pants, the duo cooked up an alibi. "He was just driving down the street when suddenly hoodlums jumped out and stole his pants."

Detectives weren't fooled. "We picked up on it right away," Lt. Snodgrass said.

Washington cracked and admitted that he picked up the girl who goes by the alias Melissa Anderson. She's a foster child with "Gangsta Crip" tattoo.

In October, she was booked for prostitution into the Clark County Detention Center where Washington worked. She never went to juvenile hall because she faked her name, age and social security number. Now police can't find her or her possible accomplices.

Lt. Snodgrass says she might be part of an Eastern European team of robbers. "It's kind of interesting. She is born in Romania and that would lead you to believe that she has an affiliation with gypsies," he said.

This type of crime happens two to three times a week, often to prominent people who are buying drugs or looking for prostitutes.

Lt. Ted Snodgrass explained, "Generally, the guy is where he shouldn't be. They are with someone they shouldn't be and they are afraid to talk to us. They are afraid to give us an accurate story. There is usually a reason why they don't want to give us an accurate story whether it is because of family, shame or employment."

Reporter Ky Plaskon: "It looks to me like its tough for you to talk about this case?"

Lt. Snodgrass: "It's embarrassing to the extent that you see that cops are human too, that they make mistakes. I don't have any excuse for this kind of behavior."

For Snodgrass, the worst part isn't the cop who picked up a teenage prostitute. "To get that badge, that badge concerns me a lot. If nothing else, it's our badge, it's our star and no one should have it but one of us."

He says it's a symbol of honor and integrity. A symbol that's now been lost.

Metro tells Eyewitness News Walter Washington is on administrative leave with pay. Metro Internal Affairs is conducting a criminal investigation

But then again 16 is the age of consent here, And I dont know if he really paid to have sex with her. Either way he has no role in LE

So much for "innocent until proven guilty".

If he is later found guilty of doing the things he is accused of, then yes, he's done.

Ill reserve my judgement for the prostitution part. BUT, the part of lying about what happened and making up a story to begin with. If thats true that is uncalled for. If you messed up admit it, dont lie about it come on man.
