Rookie cop arrests suspect in slaying
5-foot-2 officer subdues fugitive

One of San Diego County's most-wanted fugitives was arrested in Palm Springs yesterday by a rookie officer attempting a traffic stop, authorities said.
Jason Lee Gillespie, 28, had been eluding authorities since he was named as a suspect in the Oct. 4 slaying of Hieu Tran in Pauma Valley. Now he's in custody as a result of a burned-out license plate light.
Gillespie, who is 6 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 240 pounds, had an Uzi submachine gun strapped to his shoulder when he was wrestled to the ground by the female officer, who is 5 foot 2, police said.
Gillespie was driving a Pontiac on Palm Canyon Drive and Camino Parocela with a passenger about 4 a.m. when the officer spotted the car and followed it to make a traffic stop for the light.
Instead, the car's driver sped off south. After passing Bogert Trail, the driver made a U-turn toward the police car, and drove past the officer, officials said.
The officer chased the car through city streets, with both cars often driving in the opposite direction. During the chase, the suspect's car became disabled by a flat tire.
Gillespie and the passenger abandoned the car and ran in opposite directions, police said.
The officer chased Gillespie. She grabbed him as he was trying to scale a wall and wrestled with him just as a fellow officer arrived.
The second officer noticed that Gillespie, also known as “J Red,” had a submachine gun strapped on his shoulder. Police said the two officers were able to disarm and arrest him without firing a shot.
The passenger in the car escaped, and police are still looking for him.
Authorities later searched the Pontiac and found two loaded assault rifles in the trunk and an AK-47 assault rifle loaded with a 50-round drum magazine in the back seat. Knives and a set of brass knuckles also were found in the car, police said.
A check on the license plates did not match the vehicle identification number on the car, and police said the plates had been reported stolen from San Diego County.
Although Gillespie refused to identify himself to police, the car's identification number linked him to Tran's homicide, authorities said.
Tran was shot to death inside a home on Adams Drive near Pala Road in Pauma Valley. The motive is unknown, but San Diego County sheriff's deputies quickly suspected Gillespie in the shooting and posted wanted posters for him, warning residents that he was considered armed and dangerous.Molly Weasley makes Chuck Norris eat his vegetables.

Hell yeah!
That's a great collar. Good thing he decided to run away instead of stand and fight though, he had the officer outnumbered as well as out gunned.

We were very happy about this one. The muder happened in one of our areas, and the community has been on edge about this guy. He has a long rap sheet.
And yeah, seeing what he had at hand, very glad it ended safely for the officer.Molly Weasley makes Chuck Norris eat his vegetables.

Thank God things worked out in the Officers favor. On the other hand, what luck she had with the burned out light. I never would have got him.......

congrats to the officer....and grace that she didnt get lit up by that scum-bag...I am SURE FTL_Ian would argue that the burned out tail light was hurting no one, and the fascist pawn of the nazi state was merely hastling a citizen who did nothing.
