I will Shoot people Because You wont Patent My 18 Wheeler Crapper

Scene of downtown shooting remains closed
    Heightened security at high-rise

    By Stacey Baca

December 11, 2006 - The law firm where three people were shot to death during a hostage situation on Friday remains closed as other workers at the downtown high-rise return to heightened security.

"I don't feel insecure about going in today, but I'm a little leery. I'm guessing everybody is," said Mike Propernick, who works on the 8th-floor of the Citigroup Center.

On Friday afternoon a gunman shot and killed three people at a law firm in the Citigroup Center. The shooter was struck and killed by a police sniper. While the firm remains closed, counselors are meeting with workers off-site.

"I'm sure our companies will have an announcement about increased service. I'm expecting that anyway," said Jack Staehler, worker

On Friday, police say 59-year-old Joe Jackson took an unarmed guard hostage and forced him to take him to the 38th floor, where Jackson shot and killed attorney Michael McKenna, attorney Allen Hoover, and Paul Goodson, a retired teacher who worked at the law firm part-time. Today, there are extra Chicago police officers and security guards onsite.

"Security is pretty good here anyway. They are always in the lobby, second floor...mezzanine. We'll see what happens," said Rick Duberceau, 8th Floor Worker

MB Real Estate, the property management company, will meet with Chicago police to review exactly how everyone handled the situation.

"We'll get everything together and we'll find out what we did wrong and make it right to make everyone feel secure," said Janice Williams, 4th Floor Worker.

The management company says they will be reviewing all their safety policy and procedures and just to be safe and secure is exactly what workers want.

"We just want to be safe. All we want to do is come to work and do our jobs and go home," said Williams.

    Jackson's family offers apologies

Jackson's brother reached out to the families of the victims. He offered his apology for his brother's rampage.

"I really feel sorry for them, and my apology. Wish there was something I could do for them," said Henry Jackson, Jackson's older brother.

Henry Jackson says his brother has always been a good person. He believes he snapped because he felt that someone at the law offices stole his invention, a specially designed port-a-potty for truck drivers.

Jackson had shown his design to his pastor, Reverend C.L. Sparks. Sparks had accompanied Jackson to the law offices of Wood Phillips where Sparks says Jackson gave attorney Michael McKenna a total of $25,000 over several years, including a $5,000 retainer to patent his idea.

"When he gave that initial retainer fee, three days later, somebody owned it. So he felt that his money was used to patent his own thing by using somebody else that had a disconnection to this lawyer," said Pastor C.L. Sparks, Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.

McKenna -- who rented space at the law firm of Wood Phillips -- was the person Jackson told family members stole his idea.

Firm partner Richard Phillips left the office early that day. He believes McKenna was a person of integrity.

"We didn't work together in 95-percent of his work, so I have no knowledge of his clients or what he does for them," said Richard Phillips, Wood Phillips Law Firm.

Funeral plans for the victims have not been announced

If you could have seen this jackasses reverend on TV he made it sound like it was the White Guys Fault who owned the business and was shot by the deranged man. I don't know if he said it in the article but the reverend said this, "all he was trying to do was make money for his family and his self. The attorney took a long time..." yada yada yada. Here is the thing that gets me, the City will no doubt have to doel out money for the lawsuit of this crackpots death. Now will someone sue and give the families of the innocents money hell no. That is what makes this place afu.

At least the POS is dead! I hope the cop that shot him gets a commendation for the lives he saved.

An unarmed security guard is like having a fire department with no trucks; just plain stupid. They do it for insurance purposes.

Unfortunatley it too often take a tragedy to bring about any change. I agree with the statement that unarmed guards are like a fire department without any trucks, but until companies are willing to take on the responsibility for hiring and properly training armed guards, I'd just as soon as keep them, (security guards), unarmed. All to often I've seen people in "security" uniforms that are a step removed from an orange uniform. I don't intend this as a blanket statement for all security guards, but anyone with any time knows what I'm talking about.

We've had them arrested here before for acting like SWAT in the hood and kicking in doors etc. They wear SWAT looking vests and web gear with nice pistols. They were charged with home invasion I think.
