Teen Charged With Shooting Cop
A 17-year-old man was charged Wednesday with the shooting of a Shakespeare District police officer who was injured while trying to break up a fight between suspected gang members on the West Side on Monday.
Roscoe Woods of 8406 S. Kenton Ave. was charged with one count each of attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm, according to Cook County State's Attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin. Both offenses are Class X felonies and carry penalties of six to 30 years in prison upon conviction, he said.
Woods is slated to appear for a bond hearing at noon Thursday in Violence Court (Br. 66), Conklin said.
Woods turned himself in at Area 5, Shakespeare District Police Lt. Eugene Vann said at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
He is suspected of shooting a patrol officer, who was hit in the arm about 3 p.m. Monday. The officer was treated and released from Northwestern Memorial Hospital about 10 p.m. Monday, according to Shakespeare District Police Capt. Ken Angarone.
Investigators said it didn't appear the shooter was aiming for the officer.
The incident occurred just before 3 p.m. near Division Street and Campbell Avenue as the officer and his partner approached two groups of teens, Chicago Police Deputy Supt. Charles Williams said. Witnesses reported hearing four to six shots and then seeing the teens scatter, with most running east on Division. The police officers did not return fire, Williams said.

Okay, in that case sentence him to pick up brass on the firing range- while everyone is still shooting.Last edited by TheOldRhino; 12-14-06 at 03:50 PM.
